GREASE FROM KITCHEN SINKS
AND HEAVY SOAPY WATER
FROM LAUNDRY TRAYS(LT) ARE
NOT ADVISABLE (THOUGH
LEGALLY ACCEPTABLE) TO
DRAIN INTO THE SANITARY VENT THRU ROOF(VTR)
SYSTEM BECAUSE GREASE
BUILDS UP IN THE PIPES AND
CAUSE BLOCKAGES AND
SOAPY WATER KILLS THE
BACTERIA INSIDE THE SEPTIC
TANK. INSTEAD, THEY
SHOULD DRAIN INDIRECTLY
INTO THE STORM DRAIN.
(SHOWERS AND LAVS ARE
FINE THOUGH BECAUSE SOAP
CONTENT IS SIGNIFICANTLY
LESS THAN LAUNDRY WATER.)

DOWNSPOUTS
& RAIN LEADERS

• Are pipes that connects

collection points to the
catch basin or to the
storm drain
• Can either be rectangular
or circular in shape
RAINWATER TANKS

• Most common rainwater harvesting system

in the Philippines.
• Are basically tanks or barrels made of
concrete, stainless steel or plastic that
receives the discharge of one or more
downspouts.
• Required by law in order to mitigate
rainwater damage such as flooding

STORM DRAIN
• Are pipes buried underground that
links the catch basins and
terminates at the public storm
sewer.
• Commonly used are 4”-6”ø
Storm Drain (100mm-150mm) PVC pipes but if
Storm Sewer a larger diameter is required,
culverts or reinforced concrete
pipes(RCP) are used or corrugated
HDPE pipes.
