CARBON CYCLE

DEFINITION OF
CARBON CYCLE
The method by which carbon (in the form
of CO2) moves from the atmosphere into
organisms and the ground before
returning to the atmosphere.
This cycle is important for the
survival of both plants and IMPORTANCE
animals.
OF CARBON
Carbon dioxide is used by
plants to make oxygen.
CYCLE
Animals must have access to
oxygen to survive.
STEP 1
Carbon dioxide is released
into the atmosphere as a
result of combustion and
respiration.
STEP 2
Producers (life forms that
produce their own food, such
as plants) absorb carbon
dioxide to create
carbohydrates during
photosynthesis. Then, these
producers release oxygen.
STEP 3
Plants are what animals eat. Carbon
compounds would then move up the
food chain in this way. However, the
majority of the carbon that these
creatures inhale is exhaled as carbon
dioxide. This is accomplished through
the breathing mechanism. Then, the
animals and vegetation finally pass
away.
STEP 4
Decomposers in the ground
consume the dead creatures
(dead animals and plants).
Then, carbon dioxide, which
was once in their bodies, is
released back into the
atmosphere.
STEP 5
The process of breakdown is
occasionally stopped. In the
future, the decomposing
plants and animals might be
used as fossil fuel for
combustion.
Marine plants utilize carbon
dioxide. The animals consume
these plants. The animal's body
decomposes as it ages,
CARBON
returning carbon to the
atmosphere. Ocean floor
CYCLE IN
carbonate is another form of
carbon store. Carbon is
WATER
deposited in sedimentary
layers, where it is later released
as the layers break down.
If any abnormality is caused in
carbon cycle it can be very

HARMFUL dangerous to living organisms.

ASPECT OF GREEN HOUSE EFFECT- if carbon

is not recycled it can help in
formation of green house gases
CARBON GLOBAL WARMING- without

CYCLE proper recycling of carbon can

increase the temperature of
earth
WHY CARBON CYCLE IS IMPORTANT
Many elements cycle, but the cycling of
carbon atoms is particularly significant
because it is how the earth creates
food and other renewable resources
through photosynthesis and respiration.
One of the fundamental mechanisms
underlying the "green effect" is the role
CO2 plays in trapping heat in the
atmosphere. Combustion relies heavily
on carbon.
