A case study analyzed the effectiveness of online communication tools in enhancing
independent student engagement in a first-year undergraduate class. Results showed that over
half of students engaged with at least one post on three platforms, with Facebook being the
primary platform. Students primarily engaged with material by liking posts and sharing personal
material. Convenience was the dominant reason for engagement, with 66% using Facebook.
The study suggests Facebook can enhance independent student engagement.

strategies for implementing these technologies to positively impact student engagement.

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a shift to online teaching, with Facebook being a
popular choice for creating online communities. This study explores language learners' attitudes
towards using Facebook as a peripheral medium for language learning and its effectiveness.
Participants were selected based on availability sampling and surveyed using Facebook Online
and Usefulness and Effectiveness Surveys. The results suggest that Facebook can be a
motivating tool for language learning during the global lockdown.
