Calon Arang

Ladies and gentleman.

Bali is synonymous with a very thick culture. Do you know about Calon Arang from Bali? Calon
Arang's story is often told in drama and dance, or as we call it "Sendratari".

Well my name in Amrina Rosada from SMP YAPINDO, on this occasion, i will tell you an
interesting story. The title is "Calon Arang"

Once upon a time, there lived a widow named Calon Arang. She had black magic which often
damaged farmers' crops and caused disease.

She has a beautiful daughter named Dyah Ayu Ratna Manggali. But, no one wanted to marry
her. "Dyah, why are you not married till now?". "Who wants to have a scary mother-in-law?"
answered Dyah with annoyance.

All the villagers are happy with dyah's bad luck.

Calon arang was angry and wanted to take revenge by kidnapping a girl. The girl was sacrificed.
The next day, a great flood hit the village and many people died.

King Airlangga knew about this and then asked his adviser, Empu Baradah, to solve the
problem. "How to deal with this big problem?". "Don't worry king. I will send one of my students"
Empu Baradah then sent Empu Bahula to marry Dyah Ratna Manggali.

"We've been together for a few months. Now is the time for me to express my feelings. do you
want to be my life partner". Dyah accepts Empu Bahula's feelings.They get married in a big way
with a party that lasts seven days and seven nights, and everything returns to normal.

One day, Bahula finds Calon Arang's book which contains witchcraft. "There are many antique
books here. Why does this book contain witchcraft?". Empu Bahula stole the book and handed
the book to Empu Baradah. "I found this book". "This must be Calon Arang's book".

Calon Arang was angry when he found out that her book was stolen. "Empu Baradah, I already
know that it was you who stole my book. return it or I will destroy this village".

Empu Baradah was confused. He doesn't want the village to be destroyed and also doesn't
want Calon Arang to do black magic again.

Finally they went to war. Victory sided with Empu Baradah. Since Calon Arang was defeated,
the village is safe from the threat of her black magic.
