Question intonation review

Hello guys. Welcome to English II.

Today, in this video we are going to have a look at the important patterns about question
intonation.

Let’s see how it works!

An intonation describes how the voice rises an fall as you speak.

This means that Intonation is the way our voice goes up and dow.

As you know there are two types of questions : yes/no questions that we answer with yes or no,
and information questions that begin with what, where, when or who, and ask for time, place,
thing or person.

So, there are two different patterns when we pronounce these questions.

For yes/no questions we use rising intonation, for example:

Are you from Peru?* Our voice goes up at the end of the question.

On the other hand, for information questions we use falling intonation. For example:

What’s your e- mail address? ** Our voice goes down at the end of the question.

Now that you know the rising and falling intonation, it’s time to practice! Listen the questions and
repeat:

1. What’s your name?

2. How are you?

3. Where are you from?

4. Are you a student?

5. What do you study?

6. Do you live in Lima?

7. Do you like going to the movies?
