FOREIGN LITERATURE

According to Mahmud et al., (2016), extracurricular activities, particularly scouting, are

important ways to promote character development among students. Scouting provides students
with a varied set of skills necessary for managing the complexity of the future. These include
leadership, patriotism, creativity, individualism, and the growth of moral traits, all of which are
consistent with the Scout movement's core values. Scouting is based on the desire to promote
young people's holistic development by nurturing their physical, mental, and spiritual qualities,
providing them to play productive roles in society. Its ideology is centered on outdoor adventure
and the training of survival skills, which fosters resilience and resourcefulness in students.
Scouting abilities cover a wide range of developmental areas, which are classified into five
categories. To begin, spiritual abilities affect scouts' mindsets and actions, affecting their everyday
lives. Second, emotional skills refer to the proper control of one's heart and emotions, which
promotes mental agility among scout members. Third, social skills include the ability to effectively
communicate and collaborate with others, thus enhancing interpersonal skills. Fourth, intellectual
abilities refer to cognitive ability and ability to solve problems, which enhances the intellectual
ability of scout members. Lastly, physical skills meet students' physical demands, providing them
with the strength and agility needed to face challenges and overcome hurdles.
The importance of scouting cannot be emphasized, especially its ability to reduce the probability of
character deviations among students. Scouting activity fosters a strong sense of connection and
community solidarity by imparting ideals like companionship, helping one another, patriotism,
discipline, and appreciation for the environment. Lastly, scouting appears as an effective instrument
for molding the next generation's personality and ethics, creating the foundation for a society
centered on kindness, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. Scouting's
comprehensive approach to learning enables everyone to realize their true potential as responsible
citizens and stewards of a more pleasant, more peaceful world.

Meanwhile, according to Moldovan et al., (2016), scouting teaching provides a diverse approach
that promotes overall development in a variety of categories, including physical, mental, emotional,
social, spiritual, and moral. At its heart is the scouting technique, a proven style of informal learning
that has produced successful results throughout the course of 109 years of scouting history. Adult
volunteer leaders use a comprehensive educational system made up of seven interconnected
aspects to achieve scouting goals. These include hands-on learning, teamwork, visual
representation, personal development systems, outdoor activities, obedience to scout regulations
and commitments, and, most importantly, constant support from adult leaders. Scouting serves an
important function in Romanian society: to contribute to young men's comprehensive education by
providing a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law. Important to this goal is the desire
to raise individuals who not only reach their full potential as independent individuals but also
actively contribute to the advancement of society as a whole. The program is implemented through
a non-formal educational approach that involves young people during their early years, encouraging
them to take control of their personal growth. At the center of this approach is a special way of
teaching that emphasizes the individual, developing values such as trustworthiness, motivation,
accountability, and transparency. Most importantly, Scouting aims to foster in young people a
strong set of values based on spiritual, social, and personal ideals, as stated in the Scout Promise
and Law. Scouting hopes to cultivate a generation of people who not only embrace these principles
but also actively contribute to the development of a more fair and peaceful world.
However, according to Ramon et al., (2020), scouting, which is founded on the growth of ideals
such as unity, cooperation, and respect, is a global youth movement governed by the World
Organization of the Scout Movement. The global scouting community includes national scout
groups that are formally recognized by WOSM and have over 50 million members globally, including
around three million Boy Scouts of America members. At its beginnings, the Scout movement was
committed to promoting the physical, mental, and spiritual growth of children and adolescents,
especially through outdoor experiences. Its overall aim is to help people learn and grow, especially
during the crucial years of childhood, adolescence, and youth. This is accomplished through a
value-based system centered on the Scout Law and Promise, which aims to raise a generation
capable of contributing to the creation of a better world. The Scout movement is a symbol of
innovation in non-formal education, providing dynamic and socially relevant learning approaches to
children, youths, and adults around the world. Scouting is fundamentally a leisure activity that
encourages collaboration between students and instructors, resulting in a shared place for
exploration and growth.
