1. How NSTP promotes the development of values education, transformational leadership,

and sustainable social mobilization for youth and family development, community
building, national renewal and global solidarity.

The NSTP aims to promote and integrate values education, transformational leadership,
and sustainable social mobilization for youth and family development, community building,
national renewal and global solidarity by providing relevant activities that will contribute to
the physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social development of students. In calculating in
students the values of leadership, patriotism, nationalism, social responsibility and advance
their involvement in public and civic affairs. As well as conducting capability enhancements
for civic welfare services geared toward preparing the youth to become results oriented
social entrepreneurs, volunteers, and a socio economic force that serves communities as
value driven innovators for progress. By creating opportunities where students can render
direct service to the community. Lastly, through working closely with a network of
organizations within and outside the higher education institution.

2. What is NSTP, explain its principles and discuss its (3) program components.

National Service Training Program (NSTP) is a program designated to develop the

youth’s physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social being. It also aimed to enhance defense
preparedness of the youths while undergoing training in any of its three program components.
Its various components are specially designed to enhance the youth’s active contribution to the
general welfare. The National Service Training Program is composed of three different
components, namely: Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC), Civic Welfare Training Service
(CWTS) and Literacy Training Service (LTS). The Civic Welfare Training Service is geared
towards activities that have social impact through activities that could contribute to “health,
education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and morals of the citizenry”, thus
the CWTS component of the NSTP stressed the importance of youth involvement in broad
programs or activities that will benefit the people. While the CWTS focused on programs to
enhance the living conditions of the people, the Literacy Training Service has a more limited yet
equally useful objective that is to “train students to become teachers of literacy and numeracy
skills to school children, out of school youth, and other segments of society in need of their
service”. LTS thus specializes in the education of the people, strengthening the education sector
to empower the people through education. Meanwhile, Reserve Officers’ Training Corps is
program institutionalized under Section 38 and 39 of RA No. 7077 designed to provide military
training to tertiary level students in order to motivate, train, organized and mobilize them for
national defense preparedness.

3. How are you today? Make your own self-awareness assessment.

Learning about myself is always something I appreciate and enjoy because, these objective
evaluations help me understand myself in a way that inspires growth. The questions and
structure of the assessment resonated with my true feelings, inciting reflection, and making me
more transparent. Dissecting my personality type has improved understanding of myself and
others, allowing me to appreciate my strengths more, and improve my weaknesses. From that, I
can say confidently that I am better than yesterday. I am making a better choice every day and
was exploring things that I do not know. I am also improving myself each day and socializing
with others. I was having a little difficulties with my study but I was able to handle it at the end of
the day.

4. Leadership also means “doing the right things”. How the 10 virtues help students to
always do what is right?

First of all, virtues are attitudes, dispositions or character traits that enable us to be and to act in
ways that develop this potential. It says that leadership also means “doing the right things”
because leadership is the art of influencing people to get the necessary support and
cooperation in community affairs to maintain solidarity among people. Leadership and character
are inseparable. The 10 virtues help students to always do what is right since it was all about
looking out for the best of others before themselves. The book goes into detail about the 10
leadership virtues of kindness, respect, loyalty, gratitude, integrity, consideration, dedication,
honesty, and sharing. It is very well organized. So if they learned about it and apply it to
themselves they will definitely do what is right. It will enables them to pursue the ideals we have
adopted. Lastly, by witnessing the lived display of deep honesty, moral courage, moral vision,
compassion and care, fairness, intellectual excellence, creative thinking, aesthetic sensitivity,
good timing, and deep selflessness, they can develop these virtues in their own lives in order to
become very good, if not great, leaders.
