5.1. Disposal Schemes
As a Government entity, DICT is subject to local, state, and federal regulations regarding
e-waste disposal. The Philippines has several laws that address e-waste from items such
as computers, cell phones, and CRTs.

Not following these regulations can result in serious fines that could be catastrophic to the
environment. There are some ways to safely get rid of electronic devices. Here are some
options:

5.1.1. Check with vendors: Some retailers will take back old electronics that were
purchased at their stores, especially if you purchase new items to replace the
disposed of ones. Retailers who play an active role in ensure electronics are
recycled. On new purchases of electronic items, the government imposes an
Electronic WasteRecycling Fee that is then used to pay for the recycling of the
products in the future.

5.1.2. Donate to charities: If the product is in good condition, many charities and
senior facilities accept electronics as donations.

5.1.3. Find a certified recycler: E-waste recyclers through a certification process can
berecycled by recyclers who accept various pieces of equipment, though it’s
important to check with each recycler before dropping off electronics.
