This study pack is


designed for senior high
school teacher of general
English course grade X

Beliefs About Language Teaching and Learning


This study pack is created based on standard competencies number 3.8 and 4.8 of
curriculum 2013 about narrative text. The content is designed based on the genre
based approach with student centered learning. This study pack is focused on
writing skills. The students will be active in the learning process and maximize the
use of ICT.

Organization of the
study pack:

The activities in this study pack is created based on


chronological order. Each of the activities has its
own focus to help understanding the next
activities. There are individual and pair work which
enable the students to expand their knowledge by
sharing and reviewing.

Aims of this study pack:

Students are able to understand the plot of the


short film
Students are able to apply the value of never
give up easily in their study
Students can improve their grammar and
writing skills
Students can create a narrative text in the form
of short story
Students can improve their writing skills using
ICT tools.
This story tells about a little dog
wich has a big dream to be a
Southeastern guide dog. As an
underdog, she faces many
problems but she never gives up.

Pip
Focus: Finding meaning, writing

Material: Short film 'Pip'

Procedures

Students watch the movie ‘Pip’ and work in pairs to


identify the character and characterization. They have to
write the characters and characterization and the moral
value that they can take from the movie.

Focus: Simple past tense

Materials: Text 'Little Dog and
Its Big Dream'

Procedures

Teacher gives a text which contains some uncertain


words. Students have to choose the right words by
circling.

Little Dog and Its Big Dream

One day, a little dog entered/enters the school gate. She


wants/wanted to be a Southeastern guide dog. It was/is hard for her to
do/did the challenge but she never gives/gave up until the examination
day. He failed/fail the test and went/wents out sadly. Suddenly she
saw/seen a blind woman walking and close to an accident. The little dog
run/ran to guide the woman so she is/was safe. The trainer sees/saw it
and the little dog pass/passed the test.

Guess what's next


Focus: Writing, simple past tense

Materials: Jumbled pictures

Procedure:

Teacher gives jumbled pictures to the students.


Students work in pairs to arrange the pictures and
give at least three sentences (1 paragraph) using
past tense in each picture to arrange a narrative
text.

Students show their work in front of the class and


explain what they have done. The friends doing
review by sharing each others ideas.

YouTube video 'How to
Create Wattpad Account'

Procedure:

Students watch a video ‘How to Create


Wattpad Account’ then start to create a
Wattpad account. After sign up for
Wattpad, students watch the YouTube
video on 'How to Create and Publish a
story on Wattpad' by Jhalak //
dustychalks and then start to write a
short story with minimum length 600
words and publish it in Wattpad.

Focus: Correcting mistakes, self reflection

Interaction: Peers
Materials: Wattpad stories
published by the students

Procedure:

Each of the students take five stories


from five friends. Students give
comments in the comment box and
give click the star if they like it. After
having a comment section, students
write notes about the comments
that they have got from the friends
and write what they have to do to be
better next time.
