AIRPORT AND AIRLINE TECHNOLOGY

N
owadays, the aviation industry is highly dynamic and competitive. In the
globalization era, air travel is essential to the global economy. Airlines and
airports across the globe will be tasked with the challenge of identifying
the new and emerging technologies to improve the customer experience
and enhance operational efficiency both on the ground and in-flight. Biometrics,
robotics, and translation technology are the technologies that play the essential role
in reshaping air transport industry.
Biometrics has been applied in some airports in the word, such as Heathrow and
Sydney airport. Heathrow installs 36 biometric as passenger self-service in terminal
five. Passengers can have the biometric at the entrance to airline longue, so it reduces
passengers queue. They just do detecting process, going to longue, and entering the
cabin. They do not need passport for biometrics. It gives comfort to passengers in
boarding process and a good impact for airline industry.
Japan Airport Terminal has implemented robots in airport environment. These
robots are able to perform a variety of tasks, such as transporting luggage, giving
direction to passengers, and cleaning airport. Japan has the technology because the
number of productive age is not high as before. So, robots are used to help the
activity in airport.
Another technology that implements in airport is Bluetooth earphones. It supports
live translation between 40 languages and it has already used of New Zealand airline
in the airport terminal and onboard aircraft. A number of the technology companies,
including Microsoft and Facebook as well as Google invest heavily in translation
technologies. In addition, airports and aircraft can provide ideal environments for
these technologies to flourish.
