The Influence of Social Media on the Education World

From social media, we can learn new things that can inspire ourselves and others. One can
also actively engage in social media for sharing projects or research, and gain a global perspective
from fellow learners. The influence of social media on the education world includes students. They
become lazy to study, access non-educational content, and reduce in study time. Those habbits
can be affect of their health. [1]
Social media is an online media, where users can easily participate, share and create content
including blogs, social networks, forums and virtual worlds. The development of social media
makes performance faster, more precise and accurate so, it can increase the resulting productivity.
The social media most frequently used currently are WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Social media is also an effective business promotion tool because it can be accessed by anyone.
Social media has become an indispensable part for some people to do business or work. [2]
In this day and age, the top user of social media are students, because students can easily
communicate close or long distance without having to meet face to face. Social media for students
is important not only as a place to obtain interesting information but it has also become a lifestyle.
It is felt that the use of social media in the world of education is not seen as special. The use of
social media in the world of education as a learning medium has been seen as important at higher
levels of education, because as part of a social networked world, media users have gone beyond
themselves and become part of a wider network. [3]
But we need to know that the influence of social media in the world of education is very
dangerous if it is not used properly, for example, it wastes time, increases the burden of expenses,
interferes with study concentration, threatens health, and causing of depression for users. Social
media dependency has also become a new disease for excessive users. [4]
The use of social media currently makes it easier to communicate, whether communicating with
friends or family which is not possible face to face due to distance. We can send the information we
need easily and quickly, as well as access the information we need. The importance of social
media in this increasingly developing era, but we need to know that using social media excessively
at a young age is not recommended. [5]
