Students benefit from social media in terms of their academic life

A lot of criticism has been thrown to social media because of its effect to the users,
especially the students. Parents claim that their children become more distracted in their studies
after being engaged to social media. However, students benefit from social media in terms of
their academic performance. Social media provides a wider path for learning and
interactivity. (Source here)

The first benefit of social media for students is the easier and more convenient way
of communication between students and teachers. Social media is designed to build better
connection between people around the world. Students are the most users of social media
networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Their goal is to connect easily with their
classmates and even with their teachers, to ask or clarify something about their lessons,
homework and projects. Social media’s chat group feature also provides a more convenient way
to disseminate information and announcements when teachers are not around.

Another thing, because of print media’s transition into digital media, information today
became more accessible. Students can access educational videos, articles, tutorials, etc. by just
opening the link being shared through social media. It helps them improve their awareness to the
latest news, happenings and issues around the world, which is important in their studies. Social
media do not only improve the social aspect of students but also their knowledge and skills.

Lastly, social media provides relief to the stress and tiredness students get in school.
Most students only subscribe and browse things in social media which suits to their interest. And
being engaged to the things they are interested on provides satisfaction which leads to a better
productivity. Having an enough time in browsing their interests gives their mind a fresh air to
breath.

For some, social media’s impact might all be negative because they only look to the bad side of
it. They’re blind with its positive effects. They do not know that it is beneficial and the use of it
is an advantage to students. Social media builds tighter relation between students and their
teachers, it also improves their knowledge and skills, and it provides relief to the stress and
tiredness students get in studying. Being engaged in social media is really an advantage to
students.
