1 The relevant paperwork (job pack) containing the work tasks and material
specifications, including any known Health & Safety information will be
issued before the commencement of work and reviewed by the
installation/removal team.

Additional PPE will be required when using power tools and to control
COSHH materials.
All visitors are to report to the site Supervisor or the site foreman who will
brief them on the site hazards that have been identified in the Point of
Work Risk Assessment they will then be required to sign the site visitors
register

6 The controls to reduce the risks identified on the Point of Work Risk
Assessment are detailed in:

Plant ‘Nappies’ are required to be used for any refuelling of plant and
equipment in addition the correct gloves will need to be worn as required
by the COSHH assessments
Drip trays are required to be used for all plant that is not being operated at
any time
8 Future Power Solutions Limited’s Site Supervisor will carry out daily work
briefings which will be part of setting the teams to work and will include the
day’s work activities and any known hazards and control measures that are
required to be in place to reduce the severity of the risk all operatives
engaged on site must attend the daily briefing and sign the register to
confirm that they have received the daily briefing and understand the days’
work and associated hazards
9.1 Required signage, coning and guarding (including exclusion zone minimum
of 1.0m from excavations) will be set out to protect the workforce,
any work that is to be undertaken on the highway will need to comply with
the current Traffic Management Act and the Safety at Street Works and
Road Works code of practice.
9.2 If the excavation is in the vicinity of overhead lines, the relevant clearances
MUST be adhered to as
detailed in G39/1 (or approved equivalent), IF UNSURE CONTACT YOUR
SUPERVISOR/MANAGER.
Particular consideration should also be given to other overhead
obstructions such as BT lines, trees, bridges and structures.
9.3 Position of the excavation to be identified and a visual survey of the local
terrain is to be undertaken to identify obvious signs such as stop cocks,
meters, overhead poles, footpath scarring from previous works.

Break the top surface and stack tarmac, blocks, slabs, turf away
from the excavation ensuring containment inside the barriers
Using insulated digging tools (Shovels, spades) continue to excavate
using the Cable Avoidance Tool at 150mm depth intervals.
Wrecking bars are permitted to be used with care to free bricks,
rubble etc.
If the cable is encased in concrete the works MUST be abandoned do
not attempt to break out concrete.
Ensure sufficient room around and under the cables have been
excavated.
Excavated material to be kept away from the edge of the excavation
Support pipes or cables if necessary
Ensure adequate access/egress is suitable DO NOT stand on pipes or
cables to get in or out of the excavation
Excavations with unstable sides will require battering back or
shuttering.
If excavated material is required to be placed in the road ensure
ducting is place in the gutter to allow rain water to flow
11 Each company vehicle will carry a first aid kit and each member of the
production staff shall be trained in Emergency first aid (appointed persons).
All injuries shall be reported to the Operations supervisor and notified to
the incident hotline by the injured party at the earliest opportunity. If the
injured person is unable to notify the incident hotline, the injured person’s
line manager should undertake the task.
The vehicle will be fitted with a first aid kit and an emergency response spill
kit
