WEAPONS

These are means or mechanical devices, which


when applied in a hostile manner will produce
lesions or wounds
BLUNT WEAPONS
THEY CAN CAUSE

Abrasion

Contusion

Laceration

Fractures

THEY MAY BE

[a] Flexible e.g. Cane, whip

[b] Non flexible e. g. Baton, lathi


SHARP WEAPONS
These cause
INCISED WOUNDS, CHOP WOUNDS

Pointed weapons cause STAB WOUNDS


( punctured wounds).

Mixed variety-combination of blunt and sharp weapons


FIREARMS
It is a specialized device used to propel

projectile by the extensive force of gases generated as a


result of combustion of the propellant
TYPES OF FIREARMS

Shotgun

Rifled

Shotguns- These are smooth-bored

Rifled Weapons- Their barrel has a spiral groove (bore) i.e. has Lands and Grooves
DANGEROUS WEAPON
Sec 324 and 326 IPC defines a dangerous weapon as any
instrument used for:

Shooting

Stabbing or

Cutting or

Any instrument which, if used as a weapon of offence, is likely to


cause death
DANGEROUS WEAPONS5. Groups can be identified

1. Hard blunt objects e. g. stick, stone, fist etc.

2. Light weapon with sharp cutting edge, e.g., knife,


scalpel, razor etc.

3. Heavy weapon with sharp cutting edge e. g. axe,


etc

4. Pointed weapons, e. g. knife, dagger, needle, arrow,


ice pick etc.

5. Fire arms, either smooth bored or rifled


NATURE OF INJURY

Simple injury: a simple injury is one which is


neither extensive nor serious and which
would heal rapidly without leaving any
permanent deformity or disfiguration

Grievous injury is: Extensive or serious Does

1.Bodily pain: where the direct result of an act is causing bodily
pain(and not mental pain), it is a hurt, e. g. Dragging a person by hair
or fisting him

2. Disease: e.g. a person communicating a particular disease to


another would be guilty of causing hurt to another

3. Infirmity: It states an unsound or unhealthy state of body. It is


inability of an organ to perform usual function.
DANGEROUS INJURY
It is a variety of grievous injury

It is an injury which poses an immediate danger to life

It is either extensive or serious in relation to the organ or part wounded.

The injury is fatal in the absence of surgical aid or it is an injury in which death is
imminent in the absence of surgical aid
EXAMPLES:

Stab on the abdomen causing rupture of some internal organ

Head injury with ICH

Firearm injuries

Trauma to a large or important blood vessel


Section 326 in The Indian Penal Code
Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means—

Whoever, voluntarily causes grievous hurt by means of any instrument for shooting, stabbing or cutting,

or any instrument which, used as a weapon of offence, is likely to cause death

or by means of fire or any heated substance,

or by means of any poison or any corrosive substance, or by means of any explosive substance

or by means of any substance which it is deleterious to the human body to inhale, to swallow, or to receive into the blood, or by means of any animal, shall be punished with

Imprisonment for life or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.
