CHESS GUIDELINES AND GROUND RULES

The tournament shall be governed by the FIDE laws of chess (July 2017) and the
following ground rules:
A. Chess shall be played as individual competition
1. One (1) team for the boys and one (1) team for the girls.
2. Each team shall be composed of two (2) players and coach
3. Each TEAM must provide TWO chessboard or chess mat.
4. The Swiss Manager Pairing Program shall be used. Pairing according to start
rank.
Notes: Protest in pairing shall not be entertained.
B. The initial ranking of players if unrated will be ranked alphabetically or by means
of draw lots.
C. Chess Clock
1. The used of chess clock is compulsory in its absence, cellphone with
downloaded chess Clock app.
D. Players, coaches and spectators are not allowed to make post game analysis,
play against other coaches, spectators, player or discuss finished or unfinished
within the playing area.
E. Players are not allowed to eat in the playing area while the game is in progress.
F. Players who have finished their games should leave the playing area
immediately after submitting their score sheets.
G. Players must observe proper dress code while playing. The use of slippers, short
pants and sandos are prohibited.
GAME RULES AND REGULATION
NOTATION:
Recording of moves will not be applied in the Medina Festival and Intramurals 2024
Time:
Use of chess clock/cellphone with chess clock app downloaded is compulsory. the hand
use in moving the pieces shall be the one used for punching the clock.
Each player will be given thirty (30) minutes to finish the game. A player whose time
falls shall be adjudged a loser provided the opponent has sufficient mating force.
The arbiter is empowered to declare a game drawn if in his judgement a player is trying
to win on time alone. (REFER TO FIDE LAWS OF CHESS). It is the responsibility of the
player to call the attention of the arbiter about the flag down.
THE TIE BREAKS:
The sequence of the breaks after adjusted scores will be as follows:
Note: Computation of tie breaks.
1. Winner over the other
2. Solkoff- List down scores of the opponents and sum up.
3. Play-off
Pairing for the first round will be based on drawing of lots.
System applied will be Blank Cross tables and Berger all-play-all tables or round robin.
The defaulting time is 30 minutes on the chess clock of the concerned player after the
game time.
COLLATILLA: All other matters not covered in this rule shall be decided by the Chess
Technical Committees.
