Like lots of young people, my hobby is gaming!
I love playing video games in my free time.
My favourite kinds of video games are sports
games. But I don’t just like playing them; I’m
also into coding and creating games. In fact,
this year I made an amazing new game, which
I want to enter into the BAFTA Young Game
Designers competition.
So, what is the BAFTA Young Game Designers
competition? Well it’s a competition to find the
best junior games designers. If you like playing
video games and you’re talented and creative,
then it’s the competition for you! Its aim is to
show that video games are not just a hobby. The
organisers want young people to become video
games designers in the future.
There are two awards that you can enter. I’m
entering the game making award. This award is
for people who have a good idea AND are good
at coding – like me! For this award you can make
a game by yourself, like me, or you can do it with
friends. And if you get to the final, other people
can download and try your game!

But don’t worry if you can’t code – there’s also
another award, called the game concept award.
This award is for people who have a great idea for
a game but don’t know how to make video games.
And don’t worry if you’re not good at drawing – it’s
the idea that is important! You just need to write
your idea down on a piece of paper.
And if you have an idea for two games, you can
enter both awards! Just make sure you enter the
right age category – there’s one for 10–14-year-olds
and one for 15–18-year-olds.
Each year they choose around 40 finalists and invite
them to a special event in London. You get to meet
other finalists but also some famous video designers.
And you can win amazing prizes. There is only one
champion for each award in each age category
though. I really hope I’m one of the finalists!
So, if you love video games and you have a great
idea for a game, don’t be nervous. Enter the BAFTA
Young Game Designers by 11th March. You could
be the video games superstar of the future!
