Slaves
Hadrat Bilal was beaten with sticks and lashes. He was exposed
to the burning sands and heavy stones were placed on him.
Sometimes they tied a rope around his neck and he was
dragged through the streets.
Abu Fukaih was the slave of Safwan b. Umayya. He was
tortured like Bilal. He migrated to Medina but died before the
battle of Badr.
Lubaynah was a female slave. Umar bin al-Khattab tortured
her, and whenever he paused, he said: “I have not stopped
beating you out of pity. I have stopped because I am
exhausted.” He resumed beating her after he had rested.
