I. Introduction

National Health Institute of the Philippines (NHIP) is a funding agency that strives to
provide informative quality education regarding health issues in the Philippines and accessible
health services for all the citizens of the country. The main goal of the foundation is to subdue
the roots of alarming health issues in the Philippines by bestowing support in the reinforcement
of all health projects providing awareness to various health issues towards the Filipino people.

BetterPursuit Organization (BPO) is an organization that aims to promote the legalization

of Sexual Education (Sex Ed) in the Philippines and have it included as a full unit in the current
K-12 Curriculum. The overall purpose of the organization is to integrate Sex Ed in the Philippine
education curriculum in order to promote safe sex among adolescents, lessen the cases of STDs
and teenage pregnancy in the country and to clarify the misconceptions regarding Sex Education.

Philippine Advocates for Sexual Education (PASE) is a funding association in-lined with
the legalization of Sexual Education in the Philippines to enlighten the youth regarding the
consequences of having unprotected sex. The main objective of the association is to alleviate the
problems acquired from having irresponsible sex, thus it is associated to the current organization
goals.

The BetterPursuit organization is not established merely to promote the legalization of

Sex Education in the Philippine education curriculum, hence, it is founded to cease the alarming
escalation among the health issues rooted from having irresponsible sex and provide solution
towards these problems by apprising the youth about the fundamental knowledge regarding sex.
II. Rationale or Background

Sexual Education refers to the study of human sexuality which includes knowledge about
sexual reproduction, sexually transmitted infections, sexual activity, and reproductive rights and
responsibilities. Learning about sexual education contributes into shaping an individual
knowledge about their sexual responsibilities, which may promote safe choices to individuals
about having a healthy relationship, responsible sexual activity, and to be vary of the significance
of their reproductive health.

Failure to enlighten someone about their sexual responsibilities may lead to individuals
having unsafe sex which is the root of the alarming increase of teenage pregnancy cases among
adolescents and unwanted pregnancy to others which may cause overpopulation and poverty in
the country. Having irresponsible sex is also the main cause of acquiring sexually transmitted
diseases like chlamydia, syphilis and HIV which may cause fatality in worst cases.

The misconception that Sexual Education would only provoke students to immerse
themselves more to sexual activities leads to individuals declining the importance of learning
one’s sexual responsibilities that is essential in one’s overall development. It is undeniable that
someone would be curious about sex in a certain point of their life and may find themselves in
dire situation due to their curiosity. However, with sex education, individuals would be taught
about their sexual responsibilities and the importance of keeping their reproductive health
healthy as irresponsible act regarding this may damage in their whole life.

Overall, the whole project is focused into helping the youth of the Philippines in
enhancing their relationships with others and to develop decision-making skills that will help
them make safe choices regarding their sex life. The project would also eradicate the
preconception about Sexual Education, thus help the public recognize the impact and
consequences of unsafe sex in the lives of someone.
III. Project Description

The main objective of the project is to promote the implementation of Sex Education in
the K-12 curriculum of the public and private schools in the country. It also aims to promote
understanding and healthy acknowledgment of each individuals own sexuality, establish a
greater awareness of human fertility and combat sexual exploitation and sexual abuse for both
economic and personal by emphasizing the negative and positive aspects of human sexuality.

The project will start with a meeting and discussion with the allied agencies wherein the
scope and topics to be discussed in the course outline of Sex Education will be determined.
When the course outline of Sex Education for the K-12 curriculum is completely established, the
outline will be proposed to the Department of Education for evaluation.

The implementation of Sex Education on the K-12 Curriculum would be utilized to shape the
youth into becoming someone who knows their sexual responsibility and be able to make safe

pregnancy and unwanted pregnancy, as well as the cases of STDs.
