STATISTICS FOR ENGINEERS

DATASET ATTACHED ( ENERGY EFFICIENCY)

DIGITAL ASSIGNMENT 2

Collect a large sample of data and analyse about the population from the large
sample using Z-test. At least two tests mustbe performed (Testof single mean,
difference in means, single proportion, difference in proportion). It can
either be done manually or using R-code.The document can be written or
typed.

ONE SAMPLE TEST

TEST FOR SINGLE MEAN:

i) Left tail or Lower tail

QUESTION 1:

Suppose a energy industry claims that the mean is less than 680. In a sample of
769, it was found that they found 671.7083 on an average. Assume the energy
efficiency, standard deviation of Surface area is 43.62648. At 0.05 significance
level, test the energy? Check whether it accepts or rejects?
Given:

n = 769, x¯ =671.7083, σ =43.62648, α = 0.05

H0 : µ = 680 against H1 : µ < 680

Interpretation:

The test statistic -5.270558 is less than the critical value -1.644854. So, we reject the null hypothesis.
Hence, at 5% significance level, we accept the claim that the mean of energy.

ii) Right tail or Upper tail:

QUESTION 2:

Suppose the Roof area is found that there is at least 173. In a sample of 769
ids, it is found that the mean of roof area is 176.6042. Assume that the
standard deviation of Roof area is 45.16595. At 0.05 significance level, test the
claim on roof area if energy efficiency? Check whether it accepts or rejects?
Given n = 769, x¯ = 176.6042, σ =45.16595 , α = 0.05

H0 : µ = 173 against H1 : µ > 173

Interpretation:
The test statistic 2.212895 is greater than the critical value -1.644854. So, we reject the null
hypothesis. Hence, at 5% significance level, we accept the claim that there is at least 173 area.

TEST FOR SINGLE PROPORTION:

QUESTION 1:

i)Left tail or Lower tail test:

Suppose 60 % of Surface Area is used in last energy efficiency. 85 out of 769 ids
in an industrial survey said that they used in the current energy efficiency. A
0.05 significance level, test the hypothesis that the proportion of efficiency in
the industry is below 60 % this year?

Interpretation:
The test statistic -27.70645 is less than the critical value -1.644854. So, we accept the null
hypothesis. Hence, at 5% significance level, it rejects the surface area.
