Meat is consumed all over the world and have high contents of nutrients;

proteins, vitamin B-12, iron. Animal meat leads to various kinds of


diseases like diabetes, obesity, heart attack, strokes. The concern about
the health issues gave rise to plant-based meat industry. Plant- based
meats are foods made from plants that are intended to offer an
alternative to meat made from animals. Plant-based meat industries are
growing tremendously all over the world. Plant based ingredients are
source of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Plant based diets can be
beneficial and reduce risk of diseases. Plant based products are not only
healthy but also support the health of our planet. The pandemic has
created more awareness among consumers regarding the importance of
maintaining healthy food patterns and lifestyles, which has also surged
the demand for healthy food substitutes including plant-based meat
products. US is the biggest consumer of meat and the concerning health
issues led to growth of plant-based meat industries in the US. Brands
like “BEYOND MEAT”, “IMPOSSIBLE FOOD INC” and many more.
These brands have the major market share of the industry. BEYOND
MEAT and other brands signed agreements with fast food brands and
started expanding globally.
In India, the country is so large, so diverse you know and so complex.
There are so many diverse dishes you get in the four zones of India –
north, south, east, west – so the ethnicity of taste does matter here. The
key facet to any food product is taste and it is a critical factor in
developing plant-based meat for the Indian market in more ways than
one. Indian consumers consume 4.5kg per capita and it’s the second
lowest consumer of meat. India can be a huge market for meat and the
72% of the population is non- vegetarian. The growing concerns about
the wellness and sustainability India has a chance of a very large market
for plant-based meat, but chicken is India’s preferable protein source.
India has a large number of varieties of vegetables and vegan food
available to the people for better health. Plant-based meat ingredients
have super highly processed foods which are dangerous to human
health. India has a lot vegan food supplies that are rich in nutrients and
does not have processed foods and chemicals. Dietitians also are not
sold on the plant-based meat products. India itself is a huge market for
freshly produced and high nutritious food and does not require plant-
based meat which has toxicants. Plant based meat consists of high
amount of sodium and are costlier than the vegan products and other
healthier substitutes. Indians have a long history of consuming
soybeans, jack fruit, dairy and pulses for protein. India consumes
primarily cereal-heavy diet mainly due to price, varying in details across
cultures and regions. There are meat-free products on sale in India,
largely chunks or nuggets made from soy, but the market for plant-based
meat alternatives – at least as those in the West (and, increasingly, in
other emerging markets) would recognise it, is so nascent you can count
the number of brands doing business on fewer than the fingers of one
hand.
