3- Explain the MS related to Modularisation and Industrialised Building System (IBS)


In Malaysia, the development of modularization and Industrialised Building Systems (IBS) is
directed by Malaysia Standards (MS). The Department of Standards Malaysia, which reports
to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, sets these standards. The MS associated
with modularization and IBS aim to promote the adoption of new construction methods and
systems that enhance efficiency, quality, and sustainability in the construction industry.
 MS 1064: Code of Practice for Precast Concrete. This standard establishes criteria for
designing, manufacturing, transporting, and installing precast concrete components. It
addresses a variety of topics, including material specifications, production procedures,
quality control measures, and structural design criteria.
 MS 1184 defines a standardised language and terminology for Industrialised Building
Systems (IBS) in Malaysia. It defines common terms and concepts in IBS, including
as construction methodologies, components, and technology.
 MS 1314: Code of Practice for the Industrialised Building System (IBS) MS 1314
specifies the standards and recommendations for implementing Industrialised
Building Systems (IBS) in construction projects. It discusses design considerations,
material specifications, construction processes, quality assurance, and safety standards
for IBS components and systems.
 MS 1453: precast concrete segmental box girder bridge. This standard establishes the
standards for designing, fabricating, and installing precast concrete segmental box
girder bridges. It addresses topics such as geometry, materials, construction processes,
quality control, and structural design issues for segmental box girder bridges.
 MS ISO 15686: Buildings and Constructed Assets—Service Life Planning: Although
not related to modularization or IBS, this standard offers recommendations on service
life planning for buildings and constructed assets. It describes the ideas and
techniques for determining the service life of building components and systems,
which can be used in modular and IBS construction projects to ensure durability and
sustainability.
