Steels for Defense & Transport Applications

Steel is essential to every mode of transport because it is strong, safe, lightweight, durable,
affordable and 100 % recyclable. Modern steel strip and plates have much higher tensile
strengths than their predecessors, making them much better suited to the efficient construction
of large ships, shipping containers, rail cars, automotive and many other transport modes. Steel
has a crucial role to play in producing and distributing different energy source a s well as
improving energy efficiency.

Innovations in design and the development of new high-strength steels have played a key role in
improving the efficiency of many of these transport modes whilst at the same time considerably
reducing life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

India being second largest steel producers in the world is seeing significant development in
application of steel for safe and sustainable transport solutions over last 20 years. There are
numerous success stories for indigenous development of specialty steels for Indian Navy Ships,
Railways, Oil & Gas Industry and many mores
