DAMAGES / CHANGES IN THE BUILDING

There were deformations in the hand-painted paintings. I think they may have occurred as a result of the
removal of an object that was there or as a result of humidity. When I saw the damage, I thought that the
edge of the column had been scraped and that it might have occurred while being transported with an
object. 9
There are slight bends on the steps due to use. There was damage to the edges of the drywall
trim. The carpet taped to the ceramic had been removed due to use.

Sponges were laid on the windowless facade of the main hall for sound

24
INTERVENTIONS IN THE REFUNCTIONED BUILDING
While the restoration of this building, which was built as a church,
started, they deemed it appropriate to build a public library in the
Kadıköy, Yeldeğirmeni (due to its location), but later they came to a
conclusion on converting it into a concert hall-art gallery. I had
previously attended an art gallery here before my homework. and I had
the opportunity to see its various concerts on social media. Although
the library is a good idea, I find the harmony of its current function with
the Yeldeğirmeni successful.

25
INTERVENTIONS IN THE REFUNCTIONED BUILDING

Since it was converted into a concert hall, I

had the chance to experience visible
changes such as successfully re-insulating
the sound, laying sponge on the windowless
facade of the hall, and laying carpet on the
floor. While the sponges on the wall were
very successful, unfortunately the version on
the floor was taped to the ceramic that was
repaired during the restoration.

26
INTERVENTIONS IN THE REFUNCTIONED BUILDING
What I noticed during my visit to the main hall was
that it was completely hand painted. This detail
caught my attention. However, due to humidity and
moisture, unfortunately there were blisters and
deformations in the original paintings. When I
compared it with old photographs, I can say that I
noticed that the Latin text at the bottom was
preserved.
Since there was no renovation on the facade after
the restoration in 2011, there were some plaster
cracks and paint deformations, which I thought
were more recent.,
When I compared the windows and doors with old
photographs, I noticed that their general details
were preserved. Among my observations is that
while a change is made in the size of the doors, the
material of the windows is changed.
