Guidelines for Preparation of Report on


CBS1902 (Industrial Project)/ CSI3903 (Industrial
Internship)/ CSE1904 (Industrial Internship)/ BCSE399J
(Summer Industrial Internship)
General Instructions

 Minimum of 28 days is mandatory. [In one continuous spell or two spells]


 The students need to submit the following documents after completion of your
internship
 Copy of internship certificate issued by the company (with student name, reg.
no, the title of your internship, duration of internship etc.,)
 Copy of offer letter issued by the company.
 Internship diary (documenting day to day activities).

 Kindly adhere to the following guidelines while preparing the industrial internship
report.
 In the industrial internship report, as the focus is on training, students are expected to
emphasize what they have learnt during their training period.
 If any IMPLEMENTATION (CODING part) is carried out that may be included as
part of appendices.
 Certificate issued by the organization and duly signed by the concerned training-in-
charge must be attached in the final report.
 The report should contain a minimum of 20 pages including appendices and chapters
[excluding the first 7 components given below. Appendices should be restricted to a
maximum of 5 pages]

 Page numbers for the report should start from the CHAPTERS. First 7 components
given below should not be numbered. Numbering for the same is given below in
formatting.
 Dimensions and formatting styles are given below.
 The table and figures shall be introduced in the appropriate places and the same should
be referred based on its relevancy in the document.
 Figures should be numbered sequentially with a caption at the bottom of the figure.
Follow the convention [Figure: number: CAPTION.]. Example Figure 1: Architecture.
 Tables should also be numbered sequentially with a title at the top of the table. Follow
the convention [TABLE number: TITLE] example Table 1: Output Data.
 Results and discussions need not be part of the report as the students are expected to
UNDERTAKE TRAINING and not to implement any PROJECTS.

Order of the report contents

Kindly arrange the report in the following order: (Refer first 7 components given here are not
having page numbers)
1. Cover Page and Title [Refer annexure]
2. Declaration by the Candidate [Refer annexure]
3. Certificate issued by the ORGANIZATION where the student undertook the
INPLANT TRAINING. [Original should be attached with duly signed by the
corresponding TRAINING-in-charge of the concerned organization]
4. Table of contents
5. List of Tables (if any)
6. List of Figures (if any)
7. List of Symbols, Abbreviations and Nomenclatures used (if any)
8. Chapters
9. Appendices (if any)

1. Page Dimension and Binding Specifications:

The dimension of the project report should be in A4 size.


Page Specification:
Left Margin : 3.5 cm
Right Margin : 3.0 cm
Top Margin : 2.54 cm / 1 inch

Bottom Margin : 2.54 cm / 1 inch

The Industrial Internship report should be bound using a flexible cover with yellow-coloured
art paper. The cover should be printed in black letters and the text for printing should be
identical. The total number of pages in the report is a minimum of 20 and maximum of 50.
Page numbers – All text pages as well as program source code listings should
be numbered using Arabic numerals at the bottom centre of the pages.

Normally Body Text – Font Size: 12, Times New Roman, 1.5 Spacing, Single
Side Writing
Paragraph Heading – Font Size: 14, Bold, Times New Roman.
Section Heading and Subsection Heading – Font Size: 12, Bold, Times New
Roman.

2. Preparation Format

2.1 Cover Page & Title Page:

2.3 Acknowledgement:

In this page, the student recognizes his indebtedness for guidance and assistance of the
training officer and faculty supervisor. Courtesy demands that he/she also recognizes specific
contributions by other persons or institutions such as libraries and research foundations.
Sometimes the nature of the contribution is described (For example, permission for the use of
equipment, facilities and documents). Acknowledgement should be expressed simply,
tastefully, and tactfully. It should carry the signature of the student, place and date at the end.
The format is given subsequently.

2.4 Table of Contents:

The table of contents should list all material following it as well as any material which
precedes it. The title page and Bonafide Certificate will not find a place among the items
listed in the Table of Contents but the page numbers of which are in lower case Roman letters.
One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this head. A specimen
copy of the table of contents of the project report is given subsequently.

2.5 List of Tables:

The list should use the same captions as they appear above the tables in the text. One and a
half line spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this head.

2.6 List of Figures:

The list should use exactly the same captions as they appear below the figures in the text.
One and a half line spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this head.

2.7 List of Symbols, Abbreviations and Nomenclature:

One and a half line spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this head. Standard
symbols, abbreviations etc. should be used.

2.8 Chapters:

Must contain the following but not limited to:


a. Synopsis of the report
A synopsis should be typed in double line spacing, Font Style: Times
New Roman and Font Size: 12. This should be a very brief summary
of the report’s contents. It should be about half a page long not more
than 600 words. The 600-word statement should describe the nature of
training imparted by the organization, the level of skills acquired and
the benefit gained out of applying the knowledge acquired by the
students.
b. About the organization [minimum 2 pages including the nature of the
company, the technology they are involved with viz. hardware/software or
firmware]
c. The skillset of the student before the training [Gained through the
curriculum]
d. Knowledge acquired from the In-plant training [Apart from the traditional
curriculum. A minimum of 3 pages]
e. Application of the gained knowledge in/during the training [may include a
sample demonstration with a prototype/code. A minimum of 2 pages].
f. Comparison of competency levels before and after the training and self-
evaluation of students by themselves.

2.9 Appendices:

Appendices are provided to give supplementary information, which is not included in


the main text may serve as a separate part contributing to the main theme.
 Appendices should be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g. Appendix 1, Appendix 2
etc.
 Appendices, tables and references appearing in appendices should be numbered and
referred to as appropriate places just as in the case of chapters.
 Appendices shall carry the title of the work reported in it and the same title shall be
used in the contents page also.

3. Typing Instructions:

The impression on the typed copies should be black. One and a half spacing should be
used for typing the general text. The general text shall be typed in the Font style: Times New
Roman and Font size: 12.
