Conversation – Infections

Gabriela: Oh, no! This days I’ve been feeling so bad. I really don’t know what it is.
Marie: Gabriela! Are you ok?
Gabriela: No. I’m not, I’m feeling kinda weird. I have a headache and I feel sleepy. But I’ll
take this pill I guess it will make me feel better. (Take the pill, and starts feeling sleepy)
Marie: No, no, no, we’re going to the doctor now, don’t take that pill you can’t
automedicate. Come on. (Takes her to the hospital)
Kiany: It’s an emergency, it’s an emergency! Come here, Darling, I’ll take you to my
cubicle. (Takes her to her cubicle, and starts checking her blood pressure, she uses her
stethoscope and check her pulse and temperature.)
What are your symptoms, darling?
Gabriela: Well, lately my temperature has been quite high and I haven't been able to
lower it, but I really don't know, but notice that lately it has hurt me a lot to swallow and
that's why I haven't been able to eat much.
Kiany: I see, Aparently your heartbeat is going faster each time, but it is because you have
a fever of 39 degrees Celsius. We have to lower that fever immediately because it is
dangerous. And what's causing that is the sore throat. But let me check. Open your mouth
please.
Gabriela: (Opens her mouth and the doctor checks.) What happen?
Kiany: Your tonsils are swollen and red. That's why it hurts to swallow.
Gabriela: So what do you recommend, doctor?
Kiany: I'm going to give you some injections to get rid of the tonsillitis.
Gabriela: Tonsilitis? What is that?
Kiany: It is an infection in the tonsils.
Gabriela: Oh, I see.
Kiany: (Calls the nurse)
Marie: Hello, Dr. Muñoz. What do you need?
Kiany; (Starts writing and pass the paper to the nurse)
Marie: Oh, I see. Are you allergic to penisilin?
Gabriela: No, no.
Marie: We will give you an injection of penicillin and another of amoxicillin, this dose will
be for 7 days in a row.
Gabriela: What?
Marie: I said that we will give you an injec-
Gabriela: Yeah, I understood. But seven days in a row?
Marie: Yes. Don't worry, it's like an ant bite. (Laughs and goes in search of the injections
and doses.)
Gabriela: Oh no.
Marie: I repeat, you will have to give yourself this injection all week, even if you already
feel better because that is the dose. It is very effective, so I ask you to follow the
instructions. Also if you have a fever, you can take acetaminophen to lower it or put ice
water wipes on it.
Gabriela: Get it, anything else?
Marie: If you feel bad again, come here and we will be happy to assist you. Take care of
yourself.
Gabriela: Thanks.
Kiany: Also remember to buy this series of medications that I am prescribing here. It will
make you feel better in a couple of days.
Marie: Remember to come for your injections.
