C. RC Passage

Answer Keys : 1 – C, 2- A , 3- B , 4- D.

Explanation:

1.) The second paragraph posits that the redesign javelins has made harder to throw, but there
was a good reason Then the passage goes on to say that the change was to improve safety
and remove disputes. This senses given by Option C, which is the best option
Option A - incorrect because the passage does not talk about the increasing popularity of
javelin.
Option B - incorrect because the passage talk about 'redesign of javelins', not about the
'technological advancement' and its effect on sports.
Option C - correct as per the reasons given above.
Option D - incorrect because the option is too generic to reflect the content.
Thus, the best option is Option C. Choice (C)

2.) For this EXCEPT question, we need to identify an option that is incorrect in the given context
Option A - correct because this is an incorrect statement in the context since the changed
aerodynamic design actually reduced the distance traveled by javelins.
Option B - incorrect because the information is correct as per the third sentence of last
paragraph
Option C - incorrect because this information s true as per the last sentence of the third
paragraph
Option D - incorrect because the information is true as per the first paragraph.
Thus, the best option is Option A Choice (A)

3.) Option A - incorrect because the center of mass is shifted away from the center at pressure'.
Option B - correct because of the third sentence of the fourth paragraph.
Option C - incorrect because this is the definition of the center of pressure, which is not related
to the quicker landing of juvelins.
Option D - incorrect because though this states the problem to some extent the exact reason is
not given.
Thus, the best option is Option B. Choice (B)
4.) The comparison is to prove the fact that previous disputes were removed because of the
development in design. This implies that when the disputes between competitors and officials
are removed, the judgment can he impartial This Sense is given by Option D which s the best
option A.
Option A - incorrect because the passage does not talk about polities rampant in Sporting
events.
Option B - incorrect because, while it is certainly a true Statement the author does not compare
them to explain the Scientific reasons.
Option C - incorrect because the designs being a reason for controversy is not the focus of the
paragraph.
Option D - correct as per the reasons given above.
Thus, Me best option is Option D. Choice (D)

Q.1
n
n
N = nn

 N = 1090*even quantity
 N = (103)30*even quantity
 N = (1000)30*even quantity = (1001 - 1)30*even quantity = (91*11 - 1)30*even quantity …… (1)
When divided by 91, remainder is 1

∴ The given number N leaves a remainder of 1 , when divided by 1001 or 91 (because 91 is

factor of 1001).

Choice (B).
Q.2
First four perfect numbers are 6, 28, 496 and 8128
The product of first four perfect number is
6 * 28 * 496 * 8128
213 × 3 × 7 × 31 × 127
Product of odd factors of this product will be
(3 × 7 × 31 × 127)16/2 = 826778
Choice (B).

Q.3
Each person found the average of the 100 numbers by splitting the set into two or more groups.
All the three persons ended up with different answers.

The correct answer for the average of the 100 numbers is the weighted average of the groups.

55 45
Z's answer was *(average of the numbers in the larger group) plus *
100 100

(average of numbers in the smaller group). This equals the weighted average of the two groups.

∴ Z was the only person whose answer was correct.

Choice (C).

Q.4
Quantity of watter intially:

1 2 4 8 .. .. .. 299
jar-1 jar-2 jar-3 jar-4 .. .. .. jar-100

New quantity in jar-2= 2+1/2 = (22 + 20)/2

New quantity in jar-3= 4+5/4 = ( 24 + 22 + 20)/22

New quantity in jar-4 = (26 + 24 + 22 + 20)/23

and so on

Therefore new quantity in jar-100

0 2 4 6 8 198
2 + 2 + 2 +2 +2 … … … … … … .+2
= 99
2
1∗ ( 4 100 −1 ) 2101
= ≈
3 ∗ 299 3

Choice (B).

Q.5
In the total quantity from jar-50 to jar-100, there is an increase only at transfer 49. There are

no changes either before or after that. Just after transfer 49, the quantity in jar-50, which can

also be considered an infinite G.P., increases by a factor of 4/3.

The initial quantity from jar-50 to jar-100 is 249 + 250 +............+299 = 249 (251 -1) ≈ 2100

51 51 49
2 2 2
The quantity of jar-50 after the transfer is
3
i.e., it increases by
3 ( 49
−2 =
3 )
249
The new total quantity is 2100 + ≈ 2100

Choice (A).

Q.6
The distance SW=WN=NE=ES. By the time the slower competitor goes from S to
W, the faster competitor would have travelled five times the distance i.e., he would also

arrive at W exactly. Therefore they meet for the first time at W. Similarly, they meet for

the second time at N, third time at E, 4th time at S.

Now, we can say that they will meet 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, 20th time at S.

Hence they will meet 21st, 22nd, 23rd time at W, N, E.

∴ 23rd meeting will happen at E.

Choice (B).

Q.7
Let the ages of A, B, C be x, y, z respectively.

Then 48x+31y+16z = 492

Dividing the equation by the least coefficient i.e. 16 and keeping all the fractions to the left and
all integers to right and denoting the RHS as k we get.

3x +y + (15/16)y +z = 30 +(12/16)

(5y-12)/16 = k  y = (16k+12)/15

By trial and error we get k=3 for y=4

Next value, k=18 for y=20

But for y=20

48x + 16z ==492 -620 = -128

i.e. either of x, z has to be negative.

This is not possible.

Hence the only possible value for y is 4

Answer is 4.

Q.8
area of first circle = π,  r1 =1

area of second circle =4π  r2 = 2

area of third circle = 16π  r3 =22

area of fourth circle= 64π  r4 = 23 and so on

similarly area of 20th circle= 419π  r20 = 219

Distance between the centres of first and 20th circle is

= r1 + 2(r2 + r3 + .......+ r19) + r20

= 1+ 2(2 +22 + 23 +.....+ 218) + 219

≈ 219 + 2[2(218 – 1)] ≈ 219 + 220 = 219(1 + 2) = 3*219

Length of the tangent ≈ √ 9 ∗238 −238 = 220 √ 2

Choice (A).
Q.9
If the man moves one step forwards, or moves one step backwards, then he is one step away
from the starting point. Let p be the probability that he moves one step forward and q be the
probability that he moves one step backwards.
The probability that he is one step ahead of his starting position at the end of nine steps
= 9C4 *p5* q4  9C4 *(0.3)5* (0.7)4

The probability that he is one step behind his starting point at the end of nine steps is

= 9C5 *p4* q5  9C5 *(0.3)4* (0.7)5

∴ Required probability = 9C5 *(0.3)5* (0.7)4 + 9C5 *(0.3)4* (0.7)5

 9C5 *(0.3)4* (0.7)4(0.3 + 0.7), ∵ 9c4 = 9c5

Choice (A).

Q.10
Given xy +yz +zx =2

We know that A.M. of two numbers is greater than or equal to G.M.

x2 + y 2
≥ √ x2∗ y2
2
2 2
x +y
 ≥ x*y…………….(1)
2

Similarly,
y 2+ z 2
≥ y*z ………………(2)
2
x2 + z 2
≥x*z ………………..(3)
2

adding (1), (2) and (3), we get

x2 + y2 + z2 ≥ xy + yz + zx

But, xy + yz + zx= 2

 x 2 + y 2 + z2 ≥ 2
∴ The minimum value of x2 + y2 + z2 is 2

Solution for the questions 1 to 4:

Given Brazil played 5 matches, ∴ It played against each of the other team. Brazil conceded all
four goals against Kenya Because Kenya beats Brazil by (4,3) in its first match.
∴ Brazil has to score one goal in each of the remaining matches to win them (Brazil won 4
matches)

Since Kenya beats Brazil by (4,3), it has to lose its second match against India by (0,2). India
lost one match against Brazil by (0,1). Therefore, India will win one match by (2,1) against
Bangladesh [ Because India cannot win against France or Australia by (2,1)].

Australia lost against Brazil by (0,1). so, it will lose one more match by (0,1) against Bangladesh
[ because it cannot loose against France by (0,1)]

=> Bangladesh will lose its one of the match against France only by (0,3)
