PHYS2121: Solid State Physics

Q 1: Estimate the amount of energy loss due to Hysteresis Effect in magnetic materials.
Q 2. Briefly describe the temperature effect (above and below of Curie temperature) on
ferromagnetic materials with the help of Weiss Theory.
Q 3. Briefly, explain the domain theory of ferromagnetism.
Q 4. Compute the flux density inside a bar of chromium that is positioned within a coil of wire 0.25 m
long and having 400 turns, carrying a current of 15A. Magnetic susceptibility of chromium is 3.13 X 10-4 .
Also compute magnetization of the bar of chromium.
Q 5. What is Bohr magneton ? Calculate its value.
Q 6. Magnetic susceptibility of Chromium and Aluminium are 3.13 X 10-4 and 2.07 X 10-5 respectively at
room temperature. Identify the material that can easily be magnetized. Draw and
explain the plot showing temperature dependance of susceptibility of paramagnetic material.
