TRANSMISSION LINE NETWORK IN MAHARASHTRA

● Transmission line Network:

A transmission network is a high Voltage system for the transfer of electric

power. It consists of transmission lines. Substations and switching substations
It owns and operates most of Maharashtra's Electric power transmission
system. MSETCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd
operates a transmission System. Network of 46217.90 Circuit km of
transmission lines and 660 EHV Substation with 123846.5 MVA transformation
Substations.

● Transmission line -

Transmission lines Carry high Voltage electricity typically at 345.000 volts over
long distances. between the power generation plant and customers. In some
cases, a large Industrial customers may receive electricity directly from
overhead transmission lines.

● Power lines :

Power lines or transmission lines transport electricity from place to place

usually, this electricity is alternating current so step up transformer can
increase the Voltage
This increased Voltage allows efficient transmission, Fot. 500 kilometres or
less. There are three types of lines.
● Overhead line

overhead line are very high Voltage between 100kV and Booky and do the
major OF long distance transmission. They must be high Voltage in order to
minimize power losses to resistance.

● Under ground line

Under around line: Underground lines are used to transport power through
populated or as underwater or pretty much anywhere that overhead lines
can't be used they are less common than Overhead lines due to heat related!
losses and higher coat.

● Subtransmission lines
Sub transmission lines corty Lower Voltages C2GKV - G9 kv) to distribution
Stations! and can be overhead on Underground

● Sub-stations in Maharashtra
2680 sub-stations

2680 Sub-stations Substations and Distribution Transformers spread over 3.08

Lakh km geographical area of Maharashtra Covering 41,929 Villages and 451
towns. It has 2620 Substations & switching with 49000 MVA of transformation
Capacity 1 334 HV Feeder and several thousand circuit km of HT and LT lines.

● Longest Transmission line in Maharshtra

The chandrapur- padahe HVPC transmission system is 9 HVDC connection

between Chandrapur and padghe (Near Mumbai) in the state of Maharashtra
in India, which was put into service in 1999. It is a longest transmission line in
Maharashtra, I+ Connects the coal-Fired.chandrapur super thermal power
station to the major load centre of mumbai
The project has a 752 kilometeres (467 mil Long biapolar overhead line. The
transmission Voltage is t 500 ky and the Maximum transmission power is 1500
megawatts
● Highest transmission line Voltage

1200 ky is the highesta voltage proposed in power transmission

● Load Dispatch Centre

Load bispatch Centre is a Co-ordinating agency for state electricity boards for
ensuring a mechanism for safe and secure goid operation. Load dispatch centre
is an important link between generation and transmission, which. Co-ordinates
the power requirements of consumes of electricity.

● Role of RLDC

According to section 28 and 29 of Electricity Act 2003, the functions of RLDC,

are as follows:
The Regional load Despatch centre shall be the apex body to ensure
intergrated operation of the power system in the concerned region.

● Role of SLDC
SLDC will be responsible for carrying out I real time operations for goid control
and despatch.
of electricity within the state through secure and economic operation of the
state goid in accordance with the grid standards and
the state arid care. The SLDC shall comply with the directions of the RLDC.

● Major components of transmission line

Transmission lines are made up of various Components namely poles

poles, lattice structures lattice a Conductors Cables , insulators, Foundations
and earthing system these components are described in more detail in this
documenty. The primary functions of transmission line structures are to
provide mechanical support to conductors.

Lead Dispatch centre in Maharashtra :-

1. Area load Dispatch centre.
Centre government office- Maharashtra.
2. Maharashtra state load Dispatch centre.
State government office- Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.
3. Western Regional load Dispatch centre.
Government Office- Mumbai, Maharashtra.

● RLDC power system

Regional load dispatch centre (RLDC) :

Regional load desptach centre ‘means the centre established under sub-
section (1) of section 27 of the ACT.
● Side power system

State load despatch centre (SLDC)

As per section 32 of electricity ACT 2003 the state load despatch centre (SLDC)
shall be the apex body to ensure integration operation of the power system in
a state. 2.6.2 SLDC shall excersise supervision and control over the intra-state
transmission system.
