Planning is the first part of Management and important for all organisations.

Q.2.1 Distinguish between “single use” and “standard” plans and provide three (8)
examples of each specific to Checkers Sixty60.

Q.2.2 MBOs allows managers and employees to set individualised goals, linked to the (12)
organisation’s goals and objectives, with employees being monitored and
evaluated regularly. These goals are linked to rewards which motivate employees
to work towards achieving their goals. Outline the six steps in a MBO process.

Question 3 (Marks: 20)


Jane has been buying and selling her own uniquely blended Essential oils to friends and family
members for some time. She now wants to quit her job and go into an Essential oil business
fulltime. She is selling her own brand of Essential oils that is good quality and gaining good
reputation in local market. Jane has very reliable suppliers and they always deliver on time. Jane
is very skilled at marketing and reasonable skilled in Finance. She feels equipped to take on the
new venture. She doesn’t want to take on a partner at this point. She likes being independent
and making his own decisions. She has a vision to become a supplier of Essential oils
countrywide. She likes working single minded towards his goals she believes she is in control of
her own destiny, with hard work and persistence her business will work. She faces strong
competition in terms of Pricing Strategies but she believes she has a quality competitive
advantage. Jane has savings she can invest in this business but it will not be enough to cover
start-up costs. She will need funding through a bank loan but it might be difficult to obtain a loan
due to stringent policy changes. She will need to employ an assistant to handle stock orders etc.

Q.3.1 The South African economy needs new innovative thinkers like Jane. By looking (5)
at the Characteristics and Skills Entrepreneurs require motivate why Jane would
/wouldn’t be a good entrepreneur.

Q.3.2 Step two of the Entrepreneurial Process is Evaluating opportunities. Advise Jane (3)
on three of the ways she should use to evaluate business opportunities.
