What is Nutrition Intervention
Nutrition intervention was defined as any type
of intervention for children aged <5 years to
improve their overall nutritional status.
Different types of intervention
Food fortification
Supplementation
Behavioral and regulatory
interventions
There are four steps to the NCP
Nutrition Assessment.
Nutrition Diagnosis.
Nutrition Intervention.
Nutrition Monitoring and Evaluation.

Nurse Care Plan= NCP

What is Food and Nutrient Delivery
The individualized plan for changes
or additions to the clients' meals,
snacks, and nutrients.
This also includes enteral and
parenteral feeding and supplements
which is not applicable to the Meals
on Wheels clients.
What is Food and Drug Administration
The Food and Drug Administration is
responsible for protecting the public
health by ensuring the safety,
efficacy, and security of human and
veterinary drugs, biological products,
and medical devices; and by ensuring
the safety of our nation's food supply,
cosmetics, and products that emit
radiation.
FDA FUNCTION

Ensure the safety, efficacy, quality and purity of health

products by fostering integrity, transparency and
excellence; developing and maintaining evidence-based
standards and policies, in a healthy and safe work
environment.
WHAT IS ORAL NUTRITION
Oral Nutritional Supplements (ONS) are sterile
liquids, semi-solids or powders, which provide
macro and micro nutrients. They are widely used
within the acute and community health settings
for individuals who are unable to meet their
nutritional requirements through oral diet alone.
FUNCTION OF ONS
Oral. Oral nutritional supplements (ONS) are nutrition
support products that provide an effective and non-
invasive way for people to meet their nutrition needs
or increase their nutritional intake.
Examples of (ONS)
Milk
FORMATS CAN BE (liquid, powder,
Juice pudding, pre-thickened)
Yogurt
TYPES CAN BE(high protein,
Dessert fiber containing, low volume)
Savoury
What is enteral nutrition
A form of nutrition that is delivered into the
digestive system as a liquid. Drinking
nutrition beverages or formulas and tube
feeding are forms of enteral nutrition.
What does enteral access mean?
Enteral access devices are feeding tubes placed
directly into the GI tract to deliver nutrients as well as
additional fluids and often is a method for delivering
medications Nasal or oral tubes may be placed at the
bedside, with endoscopy, or surgically.
What is enteral nutrition used for?
Enteral nutrition, also known as tube feeding, is a
way of delivering nutrition directly to your stomach
or small intestine. Your doctor might recommend
tube feeding if you can't eat enough to get the
nutrients you need. When tube feeding occurs
outside the hospital, doctors refer to it as home
enteral nutrition (HEN).
What are examples of enteral feeding?

Several types of tubes are used for enteral feeding:

Nasogastric tubes. ...
Nasojejunal tube (NJT) ...
Jejunostomy tubes (JEJ, PEJ or RIJ tubes) ...
Radiologically inserted gastrostomy tube (RIG) ...
Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tubes (PEG tube)
SHORT-TERM ENTERAL ACCESS
Short-term enteral access tubes are placed into the nares
or, sometimes, orally, usually at bedside. The short-
term access provides a means to meet patient nutrient
needs and can provide a chance to assess tolerance of
the tube feedings if more permanent long-term
placement is determined to be required.
Example short term enteral access
Short-term enteral access feeding tubes are mostly
placed when EN is expected to be of less than 30
days in duration. Pre-pyloric tubes or nasogastric
tubes are the most frequent type of tubes used for
short-term enteral feeding. NG tube placement is
typically performed at the patient's bedside
Long-term enteral access
Long-term enteral access requires the establishment of
permanent access to the stomach or small bowel. The best
way of doing this is normally by introducing a
percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube. The
basic precondition for PEG placement is that endoscopic
oesophago-gastric passage is possible.
Example of long term enteral access

Long-term enteral feeding requires the establishment

of permanent access to the stomach or small bowel.
The best way of doing this is normally by introducing
a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube.
Difference between long term and short term
enteral access
Short-term enteral nutrition is usually defined as
use less than 4 weeks; long-term enteral nutrition
is defined as use for more than 4 weeks. For more
specific information on percutaneous endoscopic
gastrostomy, please see the ACG patient resource
of the same name under GI Procedures.
What is parenteral nutrition
Parenteral nutrition, often called total parenteral
nutrition, is the medical term for infusing a
specialized form of food through a vein
(intravenously). The goal of the treatment is to
correct or prevent malnutrition.
What is an example of parenteral nutrition?
Parenteral nutrition is a way for you to receive
nutrients by bypassing your digestive system. People
who can't use their digestive systems because of a
condition can temporarily or permanently receive
nutrition intravenously, through an IV catheter.
What are the two types of parenteral nutrition?

Total parenteral nutrition

(TPN). If your loved one Peripheral parenteral
has long-term nutritional nutrition (PPN).
needs, they receive TPN. .
