SPEAKING 5

UNIT 1
Based on culture, there are many ways of greeting politely at the first meeting. For
example, the handshake is often considered a polite greeting in the West. But in Asia, the
bow shows respect and politeness for the other person. Or 1 kiss on the cheek is common
in Europe. So, greeting is really important because it depends on where the person, you're
communicating with comes from to have a polite way of greeting.
At work, I always prioritize making time for small talk about each other before going in
to talk about work. I think it's hard for us to talk about work that we meet at the first time
and don't know each other yet. Give each other a little time to have short conversations
about each other to get to know each other. This helps us feel more comfortable and
connected to each other. When people feel comfortable sharing ideas and supporting each
other, they tend to work together more effectively to achieve common goals. When
people feel welcome and respected, they feel more interested and engaged in their work.
And this will also make us much more professional. However, this way of
communication has 1 huge disadvantage that it is time-consuming. Because building
relationships takes time and effort. There are some people who don't want to share about
them too much, so our work performance will be low. For many people, focus directly on
the work seems more productive, but for me, I still advocate giving each other small talks
and then focus on work that will be comfortable for me and my partner forever.
UNIT 2
A team only works effectively when members have a sense of self-discipline and
responsibility for the assigned work. Not only responsible for your work, but also
responsible for the overall work of the whole team. Therefore, the team needs to
coordinate members to achieve the highest work efficiency and on schedule. Each
member has its own pros and cons. When working together, one person's strengths
compensate for the other's weaknesses, thereby improving outstanding issues, while
improving efficiency. A few ways to make your team more productive that I can suggest.
Firstly, each member should take the initiative in working and contributing their ideas.
Because when the team has many ideas, it will help them have a more multi-dimensional
view of that work. Secondly, we should create cohesion through mutual support. Because
only when you really understand each other will you create chemistry in work. For
myself, I still try to enhance my knowledge to contribute to the team with great ideas. In
addition, listening is also 1 necessity because only when you listen to people's opinions
can you help your ideas be more complete.
Each member of the group is a separate individual, a different personality. Each person
has a personality, so in the process of teamwork, the appearance of conflicts or
disagreements between members is inevitable. For myself, I agree with the majority of
people's opinion to work with someone who are similar to me. The benefit of working
with people who are similar to me is that I feel comfortable because there aren't
arguments worth having. Secondly, it helps us minimize working time, thereby improving
work efficiency. Although some advantages of working with people who are diferrent for
you can be mentioned as training your critical thinking, as well as having a more multi-
dimensional view. However, when the conflict of opinions is too big, it will make you
feel uncomfortable, it also reduces work efficiency. So I'm still in favor of working with
people who are similar to me.
UNIT 3
In business, maintaining a neutral attitude and hiding your emotions is considered
essential and beneficial to yourself. Firstly, it promotes a sense of professionalism and
trustworthiness. By controlling our emotions, we ensure decisions are based on logic and
objective analysis rather than personal feelings. Secondly, it ensures we have clear,
concise discussions, minimizing unnecessary misunderstandings. In addition, it also helps
to increase work efficiency and maintain a harmonious working environment where
everyone is respected and heard. While emotions are a natural part of being human,
controlling them in a business environment is key to cultivating trust, clear
communication, and creat an effective work environment.
