Livelihood of persons with disabilities

A disability is any condition of the body or mind (impairment) that makes it more difficult for the
persons to do certain activities and interact with the world around them. A disability refers to a physical,
sensory, cognitive or mental impairment that limits one or more major life activities. Disability may
cause from birth or acuquired (illness, injury or other factors)

Livelihood refers to the ways by which individuals secure the necessities of the life such as food,
shelters, clothings and other essentials things. The major parts of livelihood are income generations,
assests and resources (land, financial savings etc) , skills and knowledge (educational qualifications,
vocational skills), social network and supports.

Persons with disabilities face many challenges in accessing livelihood opportunities. In comparisons to
general people, people with disabilities experience poor level of health, low educational opportunities,
higher rates of poverty, low level of social participation, no opportunities and soon. As a result they have
to face challenges in daily life. There are many issues faced by persons with disabilities in securing
livelihood.

 limited access to education and skills developments


 social exclusions
 lack of entrepreneurial opportunities
 inadequate policy implementation and support services
 employment discriminations
