Method 1 - Cold Pressing Extraction

4. About Cold Pressing

This method of extracting essential oils is suitable only for citrus fruits. After pressing in a
commercial setting, the essential oil is separated from the water/oil phase. Cold pressed essential
oils also contain waxes and resins; therefore, they are coloured and opaque. Whether this is an
advantage or disadvantage depends on the use of the oil. On the one hand, many believe that citrus
oils should be pressed because citrus aromas are temperature sensitive. On the other hand, citrus
oils contain a photo toxic substance, so sunbathing after applying a cold pressed citrus massage oil
to the skin is not recommended. This problem doesn't occur with steam distilled, clear, and
colourless citrus oils, which emit a pleasant citrus scent too by the way. The cold pressing method is
often used to produce base oils such as corn oil, olive oil, almond oil et cetera for at home purposes
it is useful for citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, Tangerines, bergamots comma and great fruits et
cetera.
