Wave Work Experience in IT

Description of Achievement

In the summer of 2023 from July 4th to August 11th I worked as an IT Assistant for the school district for 6
weeks (about 1 and a half months). I made around four thousand dollars from working for two hundred
and fifty while showing an employee. We did tasks such as deleting and restoring iPads from around all
the schools in Langley, we renewed and erased laptops and computers, and with an employee we went
to all the schools in Langley to repair Wi-Fi routers as well as desktops.

Personal Relevancy

Throughout this job, it was extremely important to stay consistent and on task because you would fall
behind quickly and work together as a team to finish the job. From this experience I learned how the IT
industry was like as well as how to manage money. Since I am deciding to go down the computer science
path in the future, it was crucial for me to have at least one job experience in the career that I am
interested because not only would it benefit me but also the university that I am going to attend to raise
the chances of getting in. In the summer of 2023, I did not have much in my bucket aside from going on
a mini camping trip so when I had the chance of taking IT, I took it. This job experience brings me one
step closer to achieving my dream job.
Skill Development

The most important skills that I gained from this job experience were teamwork, respect, and
responsibility. Whenever times were tough, I always reached out to my classmates if I was unsure of
something or an employee if I ever needed help. When I signed up for this job, I knew that I had the
responsibility to be at work by 6:30 every day and bring the appropriate equipment to work. Throughout
the tasks that we did every day, I learned how to set up Wi-Fi in at least 600 computers, erase 3000
iPads within 6 weeks, and take apart at least 5 computers a day to save the storage for future use. I
learned how to balance out my personal life and work life independently so that I will have some idea of
how much of an effort it takes for the future if I get a full-time job.

Self-Awareness

I really liked the coding part of the whole course/job experience because now I don't must ask anyone in
the school why my computer won't connect to Wi-Fi when I could just do it myself. It was important to
me to stick to my goals even though I didn't feel like getting up most of the time in the mornings, but my
family always motivated me, and I learned to disciple myself into getting what I wanted.

Future Connections

This job experience benefited me in many ways. I am now a very quick problem solver as I try out
every way that I know for a problem then when I need help, I ask for it. I learned how to clean
computers codes, which is very important because if I go into the computer industry this is an
essential skill that you must have attained throughout your school years because it is extremely hard
to learn by yourself. Other things I learned were how to code Wi-Fi routers to each classroom and add
code as well as erase iMacs which have lots of puzzles. I was very lucky to have gained experience in
the apple devices that they had us work on because after my post-secondary education, I am planning
to work at apple.
