LEARNING, TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
6a. Module Description

This module introduces the student to the concepts and principles of modern operating systems. Rather than working with a
specific operating system, such as Windows and/or Linux, the student will work with the generalities of modern operating
systems through theory and practice. This general knowledge will help the student to identify the role of the operating system
when dealing with a security breach within the organisation, regardless of the type of environment where the operating system
has been deployed, i.e. mobile, cloud or traditional. The student will be also presented with virtualised environments, from
foundations concepts to deployment.

The module is delivered as a series of lectures and laboratory sessions using industry standard equipment and toolsets.
During lectures, the student will be introduced to the concepts and principles behind an operating system and virtualised
environments, and during laboratory sessions the student will reinforce the learning by solving practical labs and exercises that
are related to the lecture.
