Effective Interventions for

Struggling Readers

READING
READING IS AN ACTIVE , REFLECTIVE,
PROBLEM-SOLVING PROGRESS. YOU DON’T
JUST READ THE WORDS, YOU ALSO WANT TO
UNDERSTAND THE DEEPER IDEAS THE AUTHOR
IS TRYING TO COMMUNICATE.

READING INTERVENTION
Reading intervention strategies are interventions
put into place to help students struggling with
reading in some way. There can be many different
reasons a student may be struggling, but by using
specific reading intervention strategies, educators
can help these students improve their reading skills.
Common reasons students struggle with reading
include difficulty decoding words, poor
comprehension skills, and low reading fluency.

THINGS TO CONSIDER
Teachers and parents should
work together to decide which
strategy will work best for
each student, providing plenty
of support to help them
improve their reading skills.
