The Intended Outcome, Key Stage Standards, Grade Level
Standards and Scope & Sequence (Saklaw o Daloy ng Kurikulum sa
Araling Panlipunan)
The Philippine K to 12 curriculum includes social studies education for grades 1-
3. The intended outcomes, key stage standards, grade level standards and scope &
sequence (Saklaw o Daloy ng Kurikulum sa Araling Panlipunan) are as follows:
Intended Outcomes:

 Develop an understanding and appreciation of Philippine history

and government.
 In the early years of education (Grades 1-3), the primary goal is to lay
the foundation for students to comprehend the basic concepts of
Philippine history and government. This involves introducing age-
appropriate narratives and stories that highlight key events, figures,
and the evolution of governance in the Philippines. The intention is to
build a fundamental understanding and appreciation for the cultural
and historical heritage of the nation.
 Foster a sense of national identity and pride.
 Through the exploration of local history and cultural traditions, the
curriculum aims to instill a sense of national identity among students.
By learning about the rich history of the Philippines, students can
develop a connection to their roots, fostering a sense of pride in their
heritage. This emotional connection contributes to the development of
a strong national identity that is vital for the holistic growth of
individuals within a community.
 Promote active citizenship and civic responsibility.
 The curriculum places emphasis on the importance of active citizenship
and civic responsibility from the early stages of education. Students are
introduced to basic civic concepts, the role of individuals in a
community, and the responsibilities associated with being a good
citizen. This lays the groundwork for students to become informed and
engaged participants in the democratic processes of the country.
 Cultivate critical thinking and analytical skills.
 Social studies education in Grades 1-3 aims to cultivate critical thinking
skills by encouraging students to question, analyze, and evaluate
information about their surroundings. This involves introducing basic
historical inquiry skills, such as comparing past and present situations,
understanding cause-and-effect relationships, and interpreting simple
historical sources. The goal is to nurture a mindset of curiosity and
critical inquiry that will serve students well as they progress through
their education.

Key Stage Standards:

 Identify significant events and symbols in Philippine history and
government.
 In Grade 1, students may be introduced to basic events and symbols
that are fundamental to Philippine history and government. This could
include simple narratives about national heroes, the Philippine flag,
and basic facts about the country's foundation.
 In Grade 2, students might progress to identifying more significant
historical events and national symbols. This could involve
understanding key moments in Philippine history, such as the
declaration of independence, and recognizing symbols that represent
the nation's identity.
 By Grade 3, students would be expected to have a more comprehensive
understanding of significant events and symbols, perhaps including a
basic timeline of major historical occurrences and a deeper
appreciation for national emblems.

 Explain the importance of key historical figures and their

contributions to Philippine society.
 In Grade 1, students may begin with simple stories or examples of local
heroes and their positive contributions to society, fostering a sense of
pride and admiration.
 By Grade 2, students might delve into more detailed narratives about
key historical figures, exploring their roles and impact on shaping the
Philippine society.
 In Grade 3, students could be expected to articulate more complex
ideas about the importance of historical figures, understanding the
broader implications of their contributions in shaping the nation.

 Analyze the structure and functions of the Philippine government.

 Grade 1 might introduce students to basic concepts of community
governance, perhaps focusing on simple rules and structures within
their immediate environment.
 Grade 2 could progress to a broader understanding of local government
structures, introducing students to the idea of a larger governing body
responsible for the community.
 By Grade 3, students may be expected to analyze the structure and
functions of the Philippine government at a basic level. This could
include an introduction to the branches of government and their roles.

Overall, the Key Stage Standards aim to scaffold the learning experience, gradually
deepening students' understanding of Philippine history and government as they
