Purpose The intent of this procedure is to illustrate the methodology for surface
preparation and application of paint as per applicable drawings and
speGification.s:
Scope This procedure covers the minimum requirement for correct Surface
.Preparation and Painting of exterior I interior (whichever required as per
approved drawings) surfaces of equipment.
. 4.:3) All blast cleaned surfaces shall be primed before visible re-rusting OCcursor within
two hours of the commencement of blasting. If visible re-rusting occurs after more
than two hours have been elapsed then the metal surfaces shaHbe lightly re-blasted.
4.4) Blast cleaning shall not be carried out in the vicinity of painting works anc/cr where it
can result in the contamination of wet paint.
4.5) In'the event of r.eoccurringof rust after completion of surface preparation and before
painting, surface preparation shall.be again carried out using appropriate method.
5) Paint Mixing:
5.1) Paint material shall be thoroughly mixed immediately prior to application. Mixing shall
be.by means of mechanical stirrers, paddle mixers, can vibrators or can shakers.
5.2) Constant meohanlcat agitation shall be maintained throughout paint spraying
operations,
5.3) Thinners .shall only be added strictly in accordance with the paint manufacturers
instructions.
5.4) The type oftl;iinner shal.1comply with the paint manufacturers instructions.
5,5) When thinner'Sare permissible, they shall be added during the paint mixing process.
5,S) Paint. components shall be mi}(.ed in the proper ratio as supplied by the paint
manufacturer.
6) Painting Procedure :
6.1) Paint materials shall only be applied in accordance with the paint manufacturer's
recommended method. Care shall be taken to select paint materials to suit the
intended application method.
S.2) Spray guns shall be held perpendicular to the surface being coated at a maximum
distance of 300mm from the surface and no closer than 200mm to the surface.
6.3) Materials and air pressure on me spray guns shall be regulated to achieve optimum
.atom.i~ationof the paint with the lowest possible pressures,
6.4) Overlapping. horiaontal passes shall be made for each spray coat to obtain uniform
appucanon.'Particular care Shall be exercised to ensure that a uniform, complete wet
coat is applied. Semi-dry spraying results in poor flow-out with excessive pin holing
and snail be avoided.
6.5) Coats of pai~t shall be uniformly applied without sags, rungs, spots, damage or
ccntamnration. such irregularities shall be removed and the affected area re-coated.
6.6) Each coat of paint shall be in a proper state of cure or dryness before the application
of the succeeding coat.

SCOPE
A high build epoxy coating re-lnforced with Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO) designed for application on structural steel.
Utilised as an intermediate or finish in epoxy systems, it is known for its high abrasion resistance and excellent water
impermeability and can be oVercoated even after months of exposure.
Overcoating Interval:

SURFACE PREPARATION
Remove grease, oil and other contaminants preferably by using Bison Degreasing Solvent. Blast clean to a minimum
of Sa 2112 Swedish Standard S.1505 5900 with a surface profile not exceeding 35-40 microns.
If blasting is not practical, make full use of mechanical tools along with manual chipping and wire brushing to remove
loose rust and scale to St. 2 Swedish Standard SIS 05 5900. tllcessive burnishing of steel is to be avoided.
Thoroughly dust down all surfaces. Best results can be achieved if the manually cleaned surface is primed with
ProtElctomastjc - Self Priming Surface Tolerant Coating. The surface should be clean and dry before appllcanon of
appropriate primer,
APPLICATION
Stir the base thoroughly and then mix three parts base and one part catalyst by volume to a homogeneous consistency.
Allow the mixture to mature for 30 minutes and stir again before and during application.
Brush! Apply without thinning.
Airles8 Spray: Apply preferably without thinning. However, upto 5% thinner 844 may be added if absolutely essential,
depending on conditions. Use any standard equipment having pump ratio 40 : 1. Tip size 0.48 -0.53 mm.
