ITT 412: Entrepreneurship For IT Professionals

Mr. Adrian Dunkley

SECTION A

1. The Emerging Digital Technology (EDT) chosen is Artificial Intelligence and the chosen

threat is Crime.

 Mission Statement: To provide sophisticated artificial intelligence solutions

tailored to fight crime and safeguard the masses.

 Problem Statement: Currently, the Caribbean has a high rate of crime which has

left civilians and security bodies in dismay but the issue lies in the fact that there

is not a system robust enough to tackle the problem.

 Short description of Solution: The system solution collects and evaluates data as

well as evidences in both massive or small quantities using a variety of artificial

intelligence and machine learning methodologies. The solution then uses this

garnered information to spot advisories, signals, biological/chemical trends, latest

innovations and more to assist the user in learning how crimes and offences are

developed/influenced. Therefore, with this information, government heads and

decision makers can put plans in place to fight crime and lessen its effects.
2. A. Three conditions necessary for Digital Innovation include:

 Access to technology and data.

 Access to customers.

 Favorable cultural and social norms.

B. One (1) example of a recent innovation that met these conditions is that of the

autonomous delivery vehicles developed by Nuro which started in 2018 (Reuters, 2021).

The way in which this recent innovation meets each condition listed is explained below:

1. Access to technology and data: To improve their routes and enhance

performance, the vehicles collect and assess a great deal of data in real-time, including

traffic conditions, weather changes, and road hazards. Likewise, for navigation and safe

operation on roadways, autonomous delivery vehicles depend on cutting-edge digital

connectivity and infrastructure, such as high-speed networks, sensors, and mapping

technologies. Nuro’s innovation did meet this condition based on the services that these

delivery vehicles offer.

2. Access to customers/customer-centric: The autonomous delivery automobiles

were developed with a customer-centric approach, offering a fast and easy delivery

experience while decreasing congestion and carbon dioxide emissions. This would make

it highly appealing to potential clients who value environmentally friendly products that

at the same time offer superior and convenient service. It is clear that this innovation has

the potential to access a huge customer marketplace due to its availability, convenience

and usefulness.

3. Favorable cultural and social norms: The success of this innovation depends on

whether or not there is a strong cultural preference for in-person shopping or a reluctance

to embrace new technologies and the result could cause the adoption of autonomous

delivery vehicles to be slow. If there is a culture of convenience and a readiness to

embrace new digital innovations, then the adoption of autonomous delivery vehicles

could be more rapid.

Additionally, provided there are strong social and cultural standards surrounding

environmental sustainability and decreasing traffic congestion, this could create a more

advantageous atmosphere for the growth and adoption of autonomous delivery vehicles,

giving businesses like Nuro an incentive to develop and implement their vehicles in these

areas. In this case, Nuro was able to meet this condition based on the explanation given.
SECTION B

3. A.

 The difference between an Intrapreneur and Entrepreneur is that the former is an

employee of a larger company who exhibits an entrepreneurial mindset while

working within the confines of a larger corporation while the latter is an

individual who launches, plans, and runs a new business venture while assuming

higher levels of financial risk in the hope of reaping huge returns.

 Intrapreneurs are the individuals who infuse new ideas into an established

business. Within a company, they are the ones who make creative ideas a reality

but entrepreneurs are independent, and more likely to take huge risks to earn a

profit. Differences are listed below:

 Decision Making: Entrepreneurs are Autonomous while Intrapreneurs

are Collaborative.

 Support: Entrepreneurs have limited support while Intrapreneurs have

greater and more available support.

 Control: Entrepreneurs have full control over business choices while

Intrapreneurs have a more limited control.

 Reward: Entrepreneurs have a greater chance of high rewards while

Intrapreneurs are limited in receiving high rewards.

 Freedom: Entrepreneurs have a high amount of freedom to make choices

and carry them out while Intrapreneurs do not have this privilege.
B.

 Ken Kutaragi was raised in Tokyo and was a straight-A pupil who did work in his

family's print shop after school and enjoyed fiddling and building things like

amplifiers and go-carts.

 He participated in a variety of cutting-edge initiatives after having earned an

engineering degree, such as the development of a disk-storage camera and an

early liquid-crystal display screen.

 Kutaragi persuaded Sony to go on after Nintendo ended its collaboration with

Nintendo in 1991 to create a next-generation game console with better audio and

visuals and Sony released the PlayStation in 1994 to quick success, quickly

becoming the market's finest game console (Reference for Business, n.d.).
4. A.

 The difference between a vision statement and a mission statement is explained:

The purpose and goals of a business are succinctly stated in the mission statement,

while a company's aspirations and what it hopes to accomplish in the future are

stated in a vision statement.

B.

 The mission statement for Cisco Systems is "to shape the future of the Internet by

creating unprecedented value and opportunity for our customers, employees,

investors, and ecosystem partners" where they would like to “enable everyone to

live a more connected life” while their vision statement is "to change the way we

work, live, play, and learn" and with this they seek to “be the leading technology

company in the world, connecting everyone and everything.”

C.

 Cisco Systems is a global technology firm that provides clients, companies, and

entities a vast array of networking solutions, software and services. Its products

and services include networking tools, teamwork applications, cloud services,

cybersecurity solutions, and expert services. To help clients streamline their IT

architecture and accomplish their objectives, Cisco Systems also provides an

assortment of professional services, which include consulting, design,

implementation, and support (Cisco, 2023).

D.

 It can be said that Cisco Systems is aligned with its vision and mission statements.

This is so because according to Cisco System’s mission, they would like to shape

the future of the internet by generating unprecedented value and opportunity for

its stakeholders through partnerships, innovation, customer relations,

diversification, and other methods.

 The company offers customers cutting-edge technologies and services that enable

them to reshape their businesses and create novel possibilities therefore Cisco's

offerings are already developed to help accomplish this mission.

 Over more, Cisco's vision to ‘transform how we work, live, play, and learn’ is

reflected in the products it offers and the initiatives it assumes to promote

innovation and positive shift.

 For instance, Cisco's collaboration tools and video conferencing technologies

allow remote connections and collaborative effort, while the company's cloud

services and cybersecurity solutions enable businesses to defend their networks

and data while ensuring optimal IT infrastructure. Therefore, Cisco Systems is

indeed aligned with its vision and mission statements
