INTRODUCTION

Business Organizations nowadays engaged in Digital trends in business. Admit it or not this option
provides them more oportunities in business. The demands were good and it helps them to have a good
branding image in the public.

Technoloy makes all the works done easier with the use of machines and other gadgets. Before the
communication is hard to reach as there is no internet or wifi to connect, the use of personal
handwritten mails is the only way to communicate to other country or telegrams witth brief text but
now the use of smart appliactions we can now access and reach our friends, family and even our clinets
and business partners.

The use of digital technologies are very useful in the health sectors, retails, banking, governmenrt
sectors and other industries. Business and transactions made accessible to all. The use of old billboard
advertisement tureens into digital markerting where in most business use the digital platforms such
engaging in enhancing their websites with the best design and user interface to make it easy for all the
customers. The use if social media is trending as many people depends what is trend in facebook,
instagram, twitter and other social media applications.

The digital strategies are veruy fast to evolve and emerge. Now we can say that we are living now in
high technology digital world such Artificial intelligence and robotics exist. This paper will discuss
how informastion technlogy evolves and hot it helps the organization as they turn their digital strategies
in the business.

Digitization in the Organization; The Strategic and Operational Role of Infrmation
System

Nowadays we consider the Informartion Technology as one of the key sources of the organization in
importance in capital and human resources. There are many oponions exist that becaue of information
technology many organizations manage their business for their growth and survival (Peter Drucker
1988 Harvard University )

Two key dimensions had been identified on the role of Information Tehnology in changing the
organizations:

1. IT shifts away from the support of administrative function to more stream and strategic function.
Informatiomn technology is extremely important to the revenue generating operations or divisions in
the organization. This is true to all the organixzations such banking, retail and emergency services
where there are times that the opeartion where put in crtical situation. (High technology Business 1988)
The organizations who put technology to work had elevated the role of IT from the administrative
support function. There are many organizations and companies that had proven the importance role of
IT in morer strategic way and operations such companies like American Express who spends million of
dollars in IT such computet hardware and software the use of artificial intelligence and investing in
research and development that they outdistance their competitors.
Wal -mart the biggest supermarket chain store in America when they engaged and invest in IT having
computerized inventory control systems electronically order merchadise from the suppliers as they
maintain order in warehouse and distribution from stores receiving docks to its shelves. The Wal – Mart
Satellite Network was their latest projecct a multi – dollar project a two way satellite communication
network for better signals and communication.

2. The second dimension of the changing role of IT is that gaining top management attention. In some
business organization the top management is directly involved in leading the way in the organization of
using the information technology.

For example company like General Motors, Roger Smith had repotedly having greater personal interest
in the use of computers and communication as a strategic resource led in acquiring EDS and Hughes.
The changing role of information technology shifting from the administrative support function to a
strategic integrated operation from a decentralized to centralized coordination and management,
There are number of forces that are responsibnle for the changing role of informartion technology in
the organizartion. Such forces that had been identified which seem to drive the strategic importance of
information technolody that includes:

1. Intense Competition
- this force the organization or the firm to become more effective and efficient. One wayn to incrrease
the effectiveness and efficiency is the implementation of Information Technology.

2. Globalization of the Business Operation

- Globalization now is trendin as more business are most likely to expand their business globally. As
industiries becomes more global in its procurement, marketing operations, and manufacturing that
requires the greater use of information technology to reduce space barriers and time.

3. Organizational Changes
- Some firm consider re organization as well as the increase acquisitions and mergers as the top
management recognize the need for flexibility through acquiring compatrible information technologies.

4. Technology Revolution
- The perfomance price – ratio of the new generation of IT System makes them more affordable and
useful to the organization. IT have been distributed over time with respect to switching, processing
memory and intelligence. The use of CPU or in the centtral office switch is no longer much needed as
the technlogy evolves and emerge in time the IT are incresingly integrated.

Truly the iuse of Information had beena boig help in the operations in the business firms in innovative
ways. IT become the administrative tools to meet the corporate aims, goals and objectives of
effectiveness and efficiency. The use of IT in the operastion such use in cost – control, inventory
system and internal efficiency in the operstion as the primary target in the major operations.

MINISTRY OF ENERGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Ministry of Energy and Infrastructrure is the organization I belong with. I’ve been working here for
about 5 years as an Engineer. It is a government sector thatz offers services that includes:
- housing services
-federal road ssrvices
- inquiries services
- training of university students services and consultations – layouts and technical studies services

Like other ministry and government sectors in United Arab Emirates we are highly enegaged in digital
system as the use of UAE Pass is needed in order to access informastion and data as well as to register.
UAE pass is the personals identity of the individual to secure the identification. It is an easy and safe
way that will provide access for various digital signature and authentication services within the
emirates of UAE.

The infornation technology is very important in our job as we have to deal transaction everyday to
hundreds of people who come to the ministry to avail the services. The ministry design the website to
access using the UAE pass for the people who wanted to transact online and as well as to access their
personal data, informastion and inquiries.

The Innovative Project of Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure

The Ministry of Energy and Inftrastructure is planning to expand the research area in engineering
infrastructure and buildings of concrete upon signing tthe two agreements with the UAEU or United
Arab Emirates Unversity to develop the sustainable and economical structural engineering solutions
which are aligned with UAE Vision 2021 and Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.

The colllaboration between UAEU and Infrastructure and TransporT Affairs aims to develop and
produce sustanable, innovative and environmental – friendly concrete for structural applications.
The Civil Engineering infrastructure development in UAE and the Gulf Region represenrs various
substantial investment which are worth billion of dollars.

The Engineering Solutions aims to protect suvh investments are explored in the form of innovative
research in structures and materials. The first innovative project aims to develop the concrete capabale
of self – healing with limited and no external intervetions to protect the investment in concrete
infractructure in the UAE and the world. Sellf – healing concxrete is considered as an innovative
projecct, green and cost effective solution that would minimize the cost of maintenance and to prolong
the servive life of all civil engineering infrastructure.
The period of completing the projects is two years and hoping it will compeleted on 2023 that would
help the country tor adapt more flexible and sustainable infrastructure to prepare for the inevitable
effects of the climate change on the buildings and infrastructure in UAE.
 Question 2:
IT Strategy to provide Digitized Services
ICA UAE Digitized System

Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) was established on September 29, 2004 under the
name “Emirates Identity Authority” under Federal Law No. (2) for the year 2004 to establish the
“Population Register and Emirates Identity Card Program”, which included recording personal and
vital data for all population in the state and keeping them in electronic databases in coordination with
the competent authorities, and issuing the Emirates ID Card for each individual to be registered and to
contain the Emirates ID number, readable data and data stored on an electronic chip, which can be used
in all entities.

Since its establishment, ICA has specialized in providing identification and confirmation services of
Identity for individuals to federal and local government authorities and any other entities and
determining the means applicable in this regard. The Law has given ICA, for such purpose, the right to
request the necessary data and information from the competent authorities in the State to serve its
objectives. The Federal Decree-Law No. 3 of 2017 is a significant and important turning point in the
work of ICA after it was decided to change its name to be “Federal Authority for Identity and
Citizenship” and to add new functions to its Terms of Reference namely citizenship Affairs, passports,
entry and residence of foreigners in the state, and transfer the terms of reference and powers assigned to
the Ministry of Interior to ICA in this regard.

The strategy of ICA came from their vision of : “Trusted Identity and leading services” , and the
mission where : “Provide innovative services according to the best international practices for the
customers of Authority by inspired national talents to enhance community security and corporate
reputation”.
The main objectives for ICA are:
· Lead the provision of identity, citizenship, residency and foreigners affairs services
 · Manage personal identity life-cycle to ensure the quality and security of the population register
data.

· Ensure the provision of administrative services in accordance with the standards of quality,
efficiency and transparency
· Foster a culture of innovation in the organizational work environment.

The Information technology Department responsible for serving the first and third strategic goals of the
Authority which are :
· Smart and digital transformation and automation of services.
· Paperless management and green environmental sustainability.
· Achieving services with artificial intelligence without human intervention.
Add to that, the Federal Authority for Identity, Nationality, Customs and Ports Security has been able to
harness technology to develop its operations, which contributed to building a technical institution that
was employed to the fullest extent, which led to a qualitative leap that keeps pace with successive
developments and changes. Residency applications in the General Administration of Residency and
Foreigners Affairs where among the most important services provided to customers and the most in
demand, and that improving them will contribute to raising the quality of these services and increasing
the satisfaction of their customers.
In my point of view, the authority has transferred 7% of the completion of its services to artificial
intelligence, through the introduction of smart software tools to the unified citizenship and residency
system that helped in the completion of these services by reviewing and checking them automatically
without the intervention of the human element, and these services includes:

· Fines payment service

· Residence cancellation service
· Departure permit service
· Status adjustment service
· Residence details service
· Entry and exit services
Thus, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security was able to automate
all its services through digital transformation and accomplish these services with artificial intelligence
and thus reflected on achieving sustainability in the green environment and achieved the target
projected on it from the national agenda of the United Arab Emirates, which is to transfer 5% of its
services to artificial intelligence without Human intervention (automatic fulfilment of services) during
2021. The ICA Digitized Service provides convenience and security to all the people wheter local and
foreign nationals. Through this iniatitive people can now access theit informastion in the ICA websiter
and application that brought convenience to them when travelling, coming back to the country or if
they wanst to check the status of their visa, the information they need will be provided by the digital
system of ICA. The services is provided for:

- UAE Citizedns (Local Emirati People)

- UAEresidents that icludes expats holding their residence visa
- All the GCC Citizens
- All the GCC residents
-And all the visitors such foreign nationals those who wanted to visit the country for entry visa and
manage to renew after

The initiative all includes in the vision ans mission providing innovative services and the best practice
for all the customers of the authority to enhnace the community security and maintain the corporateb
reputation. All the people residing the country both locals and expats were really secured as their
identity were secured by the ICA and no one can steal such data as the person of concern or with the
authority can access and this is the aoim of ICA to enhance the security of all the citizen.
Align with the Business Strategy is the digital strategy that cannot stand alone and independent. With
the help of the technology it keeps prpoviding new opportunities for all the business organizations and
sectors. Aligned organizations are more likely having the possibilty to be a leader in the industry to
improve the experoience, the employees, customerts and the brand portfolio and products, Imagine if
UAE did not pursure such changes like transforming into SMRT Services transsaction will be slow,
there will be issues and conflicts in providing informastion such errors will occur and they will spend
cost of papers and more time per transactions. Technology made all things convenient and easier to all
with the convenience of fast access and the security it provides.

And as the UAE governenment pursue the diigital servivces in all the government transactions they
have been recognize first globally in 23 indicators in vital sectors in terms of telecommunication,
health, residency, and labour. The effort to improve the country's digital government have accelerated
under the UAE Digital Strategy. Aligning their Digital Strstegy to Business made the country being
recognized as the safest country and had a good impression with other country as a global leader and
many countries look up and followed them.
