ECOSYSTEM: LIGHT-DEPENDENT REACTION STAGE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS

Objectives:
1. Define Light-dependent Reaction.
2. Discuss the processes involve in the Light-dependent reaction stage of
photosynthesis.
3. Relate light-dependent Reaction stage of photosynthesis to real-life situations
through a reflective writing.

Light-dependent reactions - happen in the thylakoid membrane of the chloroplasts

and occur in the presence of sunlight. The sunlight is converted to chemical energy
during these reactions. The chlorophyll in the plants absorb sunlight and transfers to
the photosystem which are responsible for photosynthesis.

Guide Questions:
1. What are the two groups of light- absorbing molecules?
- Photosystem I and II
2. What helps in the production of ATP?
- Electron shuttled to Photosystem I
3. What chemical transports 2 hydrogen atoms to form NADPH?
- NADP (nicotinamide adenine)
4. How does Photosystem II regain electrons?
- It regains electrons by splitting water and releasing oxygen.

1. What are the materials needed for light-dependent reaction stage of

photosynthesis to happen?
- The light-dependent reactions use light energy to make two molecules needed for
the next stage of photosynthesis: the energy storage molecule ATP and the reduced
electron carrier NADPH.

2. What is the role of light and chlorophyll in lightdependent

reaction of photosynthesis?

- The sunlight is converted to chemical energy during these

reactions. The chlorophyll in the plants absorb sunlight and
transfers to the photosystem which are responsible for
photosynthesis. Water is used to provide hydrogen ions
and electrons but also produces oxygen.

3. What are the products of the light dependent reaction?

- The three products of the light reaction of photosynthesis are ATP, NADPH, and
O2.

4. What happens in the lightdependent reactions?

- The sunlight is converted to chemical energy during these reactions.

5. Make a simple diagram of different processes taking

place in light-dependent reaction.
