Analysis of Wind Flow around Major Buildings in the Campus of College of Engineering Trivandrum
Abstract
Ever increasing demand for energy has necessitated the search for maximizing the power generation from renewable energy sources
in developing nations. Wind energy potential can be significantly augmented with the use of mini and micro wind turbines. This study
involves an investigation of wind flow patterns around tall buildings within the campus of an academic institution using numerical
simulations. A three dimensional computational model is made and the simulations are performed with the stated inlet velocity set to
6 m/s, which is the average wind velocity for the region. The numerical results obtained are in close agreement with the experimentally
measured data for the locations considered. The results are utilized for optimum positioning of mini and micro wind turbines to
maximize power generation.
