Meaning : Percentage means 100

Any value Converted into 100 is Called Percentage.

Example 1 : In a class , there are 20 boys and 30 girls , find the % of boys and Girls

Example 2 : In a box , out of 60 mangoes ,40 mangoes are good , how many % of mangoes are bad .

Now New Price = 120 per kg and Total expenditure = Rs. 10000

Chapter : 2 ( Ratio and Proportion)

Ratio - The relation between the two quantities is called ratio

Example – If A invested Rs 100000 and B invested Rs 200000 in a business. So ratio of their capitals is
100000: 200000 means 1 : 2

Ratio always expressed in Simplest form .

Important terms :

1. Cost price means Purchasing Price.

2. Selling price means Selling Price.

3. Profit or gain means Excess of selling price over cost price.

Profit/gain = Selling Price - Cost Price.

4. Loss means Excess of Cost Price over Selling price.

Chapter : 4 Number System


Natural Numbers – Natural numbers start with 1 ; Natural numbers are counting numbers.

Even Numbers – Numbers which are divisible by 2.

Odd Number – Numbers which are not divisible by 2.

Whole Number – When zero is included in natural numbers then numbers are called whole numbers.

Integers – When in the set of whole numbers, natural numbers with negative sign are included, then it
become set of integers. They are denoted by Z.

Prime Numbers - The natural numbers which have no factors other that 1 and It self are called Prime
Numbers.

Note: - 2 is only even prime number.

Co-Prime number – Two numbers which have no common factors other than 1 are called Co-prime
numbers. Such as 9 and 16 , 4 and 17, 80 and 81 etc. It is not necessary that two co-prime numbers are
prime always. They may or may not be Prime numbers.

Composite Numbers – The number which are not prime number are called composite numbers. Such as 6, 8,
12 etc.

Note : - 1 is neither prime or Composite number. Composite number may be even or odd number.

Rational Number – The numbers which can be expressed in the form of p/q and q ǂ 0. They are denoted by
Q. These may be positive or negative.

Ir- rational Numbers – The numbers which are not rational numbers, are called Ir-rational numbers.

Such as √ 2 = 1.414213562….
π = 3.141592653….

Real numbers – Set of all rational numbers as well as ir-rational numbers. In other words, all type of
numbers are real numbers except imaginary numbers.

Cyclic Numbers – Cyclic numbers are those numbers of n digits which when multiplied by any other
number upto n gives some digits in a different order. Such as 142857

142857 x 1 = 142857, 142857 x 2 = 285714, 142857 x 3 = 428571,

142857 x 4 = 571428, 142857 x 5 = 714285

Perfect Numbers – If the sum of all divisors of a number N (except)N is equal to the number N itself,
then the number is called perfect Number. Such as 6, 28, 496, 8128 etc.

Note – In a Perfect number, the sum of inverse of all of its factors including it self is 2.

Important points.

1. The place or position of a digit in a number is called its place value.

Such as place value of 2 in 5283 is = 200


Place value of 3 in 5243491 is = 3000

2. The real value of any digit in a certain number is called its face value.

Such as face value of 2 in 5283 is = 2

3. The sum, subtraction, Multiplication and division of two rational numbers Is always a rational number.

4. The sum, subtraction, multiplication and division of rational and Ir-rational number is always an Ir-
rational Number.

5. Square of even number is even and square of odd number is odd.

Rules of Divisibility

1. Divisibility by 2- If the last digit is 0 or an even number then that number is divisible by 2.

2. Divisibility by3 – If the sum of all digit of a number is divisible by 3, then that number is divisible by 3.

Such as – 432, 2349, 15678, But 864329 – not divisible

3. Divisibility by 4 - If in any number last two digits are divisible by 4, then whole number will be divisible by 4.
Such as – 48424, 982648 but 749282 is not divisible by 4.

4. Divisible by 5 - If the last digit of number is 5 or 0, then that number is divisible by 5.

Such as – 20820, 50345, are divisible but 30934 and 40946 are not divisible.

5. Divisibility by 6 – If a number is divisible by both. 2 and 3, then that number is divisible by 6.

Such as – 35356, 25614

6. Divisibility by 7- Subtract 2 times the last digit from the rest.

Such as – 483
48 – 3 x 2 = 48 – 6 = 42 Divisible by 7.
112 = 11 – 2 x 2 = 11- 4 = 7
343 = 34 – 3 x 2 = 34 - 6 = 28
7. Divisibility by 8 – If the last 3 digits of a number are divisible by 8, then that number is also divisible by 8.
Such as 247864 is divisible by 8.

8. Divisibility by 9 – If the sum of all digits of a number is divisible by 9, then that number is also
divisible by 9.

Such as 2432435 = 2+4+ 3+2+4+3 = 18 Divisible by 9. But 6895 is not divisible by 9.

9. Divisibility by 10 – The number whose last digit is 0, is divisible by 10.
