STATEMENT
In my perspective, I completely believe that every story has many
sides, and that each and every narrative contains a distinct
beauty. I approach life with an open heart, respecting the
variety of viewpoints and discovering the inherent beauty in
every encounter. This attitude influences my relationships,
cultivating empathy, compassion, and a genuine respect for the
complexity of everyone’s collective stories.

INSPIRATION:

FEMALE GAZE
The "female gaze" challenges traditional depictions of women by presenting the
world through a lens that reflects women's experiences, desires, and perspectives.
It seeks to counter the objectification inherent in the "male gaze" by portraying
women as subjects rather than objects, fostering authentic and empowering
representations. This concept extends beyond film to encompass various media
forms, aiming to redefine and diversify portrayals of women in ways that promote
gender equality and a more nuanced understanding of female experiences.

PHOTOGRAPHER INSPIRATION:

Petra Collins
Collins is the poster girl for an aesthetic that has taken hold in the fashion world and some quarters of
Instagram—a dreamy, hyper-feminine approach that sometimes appears under the headline “the female
gaze.” Her instagram is full of portraits of young women that seem to allude to the fact that they were
created by a young woman. The subjects are seen in moody, inward moments that emphasize their interiority
and hint at a larger narrative. They could be stills from a vintage movie—an impression heightened by the
fact that Collins often shoots on film instead of with digital cameras. The light is warm and diffuse. Girly
totems abound: flowers, stickers, glittery nail polish, the color pink.

PHOTOGRAPHER INSPIRATION:

Chloe Sheppard
Photographer Chloe Sheppard has been shaking up the world of editorial photography since 2012. The
British artist has been described as soft and dreamy in her style. Perhaps her work, influenced by the 60s and
70s aesthetics and colors, compared to the 90s cold blue tones, can be a way to interpret her work. It's the
artist's personal taste and the ideas that flourish in the final images shouldn't be associated with gender.
Adolescence is a recurrent theme in her images. Glimpses of afternoons spent in a teenage room or
wandering around with friends. But her work is not only made of ephemeral lightheartedness. She rewrites
the beauty standards in terms of seduction and allure.

“IN MY SHOES”
The "female gaze" challenges traditional depictions of women by presenting the

Color and Emotion

In film cinematography, color grading is a crucial aspect that involves adjusting and
enhancing the colors in post-production to evoke specific emotions, set the mood, and
enhance storytelling. Different colors are associated with various emotions and themes,
and filmmakers use color grading intentionally to convey these emotions.

YELLOW
Yellow is also a contradictory color, which
depending on the context and the type of film can
mean very different things. It can be associated with
madness and illness, insecurity or obsession, but also
with the idyllic and the innocent. This is one of Wes
Anderson's favorite colors, as he is an expert at
combining apparently innocent plots with truly
problematic characters and feelings.

BLUE
One of the most cerebral and rational colors, blue is
usually associated with calm and introspection.
Introspection can be both positive and negative,
let's not forget. Traditionally, it has also been
associated with the divine, probably due to its
presence in the skies and seas, so it is also used for
epic stories related to the meaning of life, as is the
case in 'The Truman Show

ORANGE
Orange is the color of sunrise but also of sunset,
so it combines sensations associated with the
concept of a new day (youth, friendship,
warmth, sociability) and others closer to
memory and nostalgia. In general, however, it is
a happy and positive tone, that can also
reminds us of exotic and idyllic landscapes.

Reverie
/ˈrev(ə)rē/
(n.) a state of being pleasantly lost in one's thoughts; a daydream.

CONCEPT:
In this enchanting photograph, the warm sunlight bathes a 17-year-old girl,
casting a soft, golden glow. She stands in a reverie, angel wings draped
gracefully behind her, holding a delicate white rose symbolizing purity and
transformation. The atmosphere is ethereal, representing the journey from
girlhood to womanhood. The soothing tones generate a sense of calm, while the
dreamy mood and thoughtful expression on her face urge viewers to reflect on
the profound journey of self-discovery and evolution caught in this emotional
moment.

UNSELECTED PICTURES

I think these are too generic and doesn’t

show much emotions through the
photography. It feels like a normal
instagram photo, plus the camera’s setup
for the light is not too good.

REFLECTION
I've always wanted to try fashion photography. I wanted to
see whether I could do it, and I'd say I wasn't disappointed.
It may be better, but it's already better than I expected.
Because of my personal job schedule, the pre-production
phase is probably my main concern during the course of
this project. I was afraid that if I didn't plan and research
thoroughly enough, the consequence would be disastrous.
All of my research and plans had to be changed on the day
of the shoot since my model refused to let me explore my
photography due of her personal experience/trauma of
receiving hate online (cyberbullying) over something as
ridiculous as who she was dating. I then had to come up
with a new idea and mentally rearrange things.
Subsequently, the conceptual portrait project needs to be
modified to fashion photography.

Due to a shortage of equipment, the lighting setup is rather

tough. I did not borrow equipment from the university, but I
did borrow lighting equipment from my uncle because of
the model’s tight schedule and the fact that the date I shot
the images was a holiday and the university was closed. It
was so last minute when I called to borrow the lights.

The post production was my favourite part. I enjoyed

editing and adjusting the color grading, color correction,
applying effects. I wanted it to be an analog film vibe–with
the grains and colors. It came out great and I am satisfied
with it.

Overall, this is a great photography experience for me

especially because I did it individually without any team
members. It is challenging but so enjoyable.
