INTRODUCTION:

The aim of this literature review is to investigate the impact of stress on

students' academic performance and health. Additionally, the review aims
to identify the coping strategies that students use to manage stress
effectively while pursuing their studies.

BODY:

Academic stress related:

According to (Hachintu, 2022) student stress is a serious issue that can

significantly impact academic performance. It is crucial to recognize that
stress can stem from various factors, including limited time for completing
assignments and preparing for exams, inadequate sleep quality and
quantity, lack of confidence, familial responsibilities, and poor relationships
with teachers. If left unaddressed, student stress can hinder learning and
negatively impact future opportunities. Therefore, it is essential to prioritize
and address student stress as a means of fostering academic success.
How stress affects academic performance of the students:

Hachintu (2022) has stated how stress can negatively affect a student's performance in
class. One of the examples is , lack of quality sleep can cause a student to sleep in
class, be late or request to leave the room, and habitually miss class or interrupt the
lesson verbally. Another effect of stress that can cause poor student performance is
poor communication and relationships between the student and the teacher.

Stress coping mechanism of Students:

Are you feeling overwhelmed with stress? According to Gomez et al.

(2021), students have different methods for dealing with stress. However,
female students have a better coping strategy than males. They tend to
spend time with friends, listen to music, eat a lot, go to different places, and
keep their faith in God. On the other hand, male students do not always
have effective coping strategies when they are stressed. Despite this, both
male and female students do not isolate themselves when dealing with
stress. Therefore, it is crucial to develop effective stress-coping strategies
to prevent negative impacts on your mental and physical health. Take
charge of your mental health and prioritize your well-being by developing
coping strategies that work for you.

SYNTHESIS:

It is imperative to acknowledge that stress is an undeniable part of a

student's academic journey. Studies have revealed that stress can have a
detrimental effect on the mental and physical health of students, leading to
a decline in their academic performance. However, students have shown
resilience in finding ways to overcome stress and ensure that it does not
affect their academic performance. It is high time that we take these issues
seriously and provide students with the necessary support to manage
stress. We cannot afford to overlook the long-term consequences of
extreme stress, which can lead to severe mental health conditions or even
suicide. Let's take action now to provide students with the resources and
support they need to cope with stress and succeed academically.due to the
extreme stress they are experiencing and they can no longer cope with it,
there is a possibility that a student commits suicide because of the stress
he was experiencing.
