INTRODUCTION

School is a place for young people to have a safe learning environment with
the hope that they will find their passion and desired career. However, not everything
was perfect as the hope of the Education Ministry and other people, it is also a place
where violence appears more and more commonly. Regarding the current social
situation, we can see school violence appearing among pupils, students, and even
teachers. School violence is the type of violence that haunts young people the most.
It comes from distorted thinking and lack of education, leading to verbal and physical
violence, affecting the lives and spirit of children in the school environment (Group 5,
2023). School is just a word for scale. in the learning space and it is only a small part
of the violence. And our essay below will discuss this more deeply and extensively
about this problem.

II. TYPES OF VIOLENCE

A. Physical Violence: This is divided into many types of violence and objects of
violence. It is the act of using direct violence against the victim, causing
serious consequences for the victim's health. People who use violence and
people who are subjected to violence are not limited to teachers, students, or
any gender can become perpetrators or victims of school violence. Common
forms of physical violence include slapping, punching, pinching, pulling hair,
burning, strangling, hitting, threatening, or attacking with a weapon or other
object, throwing objects at people, being locked in a room or tied up, stripped
of clothes, and being brutally beaten (Đặng Thị Ngọc Thịnh, 2010). Location of
physical violence: This incident usually occurs on school grounds: school
grounds, classrooms, restrooms, school stairs, or places with few people. In
addition, some individuals want to attract attention and choose the most
crowded place to use physical violence against others. There are instances
where violence happens off campus but is still classified as school violence
since the roots of fighting and impulsivity are rooted in the school
environment. Even if the conflict is settled off campus, the school is still
labeled violent. In terms of physical health, it will result in bodily harm. For
women, the obvious physical manifestations that can be seen with the naked
eye are head injuries: tangled hair due to being pulled, damaged eyes, nose,
and mouth, and redder cheeks due to physical impact. As for men, the signs of
violence are more obvious on the body: bruised limbs, bruised eyes from
being punched,... serious cases can be life-threatening. (hcdc, 2023) . In
another case, on October 10, 2022, due to an emotional conflict, a male
student at the University of Natural Resources and Environment was
repeatedly beaten by a group of other male students at the same school with
hands, feet, and chairs until he fainted. The incident was later spread on social
networks and caused public outrage. (VTV, 2023)

B. Verbal and Psychological Violence: There are countless different types of

verbal violence, but generally these actions involve negative verbal violence
and cause emotional harm to the victim. It does not directly cause any damage
to the body but goes straight to the victim's psychology and from there the
victim can torment themselves.

In addition, verbal violence is special in that it does not only take place
directly. Talk to each other in real life or criticize an individual right in front of
you. They can also mean defamation and attacks on social media. Influence the
victim without having to directly meet or witness a problem but can judge
through unverified information on social networks. Spreading false information
about others, just having a phone or laptop, and staying at home without going
out can torture others with malicious words and criticism (Vũ Hoài Thu, 2023).
The final path to depression, which is more dangerous, is death. Groups of
people vulnerable to verbal and psychological violence: In fact, everyone
among us can be a victim of verbal violence, just a small action, a strange
gesture, a look... can also cause us to become victims of verbal violence.
People most susceptible to verbal violence often fall into the following groups:
People whose appearance differs from current social standards, have different
genders, and have achievements or an appearance that is more outstanding
than others is also a factor leading to this situation. People who experience
verbal and psychological violence often have symptoms such as depression,
low self-esteem, always paying attention to the gossip around them and only
thinking about themselves, always blaming and self-criticizing, close. Thinking
too much and not wanting to communicate with friends, family, or society.
Always feel lonely and have no one around. The psychological consequences of
school violence are relatively serious, even more serious than physical
violence, because physical damage can be easily seen with the naked eye while
mental damage is not. The fear or obsession with how to deal with bullies can
cause stress, leading to anxiety; depression, and severe psychological effects.
Common states that most victims of violence experience include: fear, anxiety,
insecurity, resentment, phobia, autism, depression, etc. And it is because of
the heavy emotions. It gets worse day by day, leading to negative thoughts
such as murder and suicide. For example, recently, public opinion has
expressed condolences over the case of a 10th-grade female student at High
School for the Gifted - Vinh University, Nghe An, who committed suicide due to
suspected street violence. The main cause of the incident is still being
investigated by the police. However, on social networks, information spread
that the female student was beaten, abused, and psychologically overwhelmed
by her classmates. She applied to transfer schools but was not approved, and
then a heartbreaking incident occurred. According to information provided by
her family, the female student locked the door and committed suicide on April
16 (VTV24, 2023).

C. Sexual violence: Currently, the issue of sexual violence is gradually becoming

more common, but what is more worrying is that it is taking place more and
more in schools and is one of the most serious and widespread human rights
violations in the world.

Sexual violence is the act of forcing or enticing a person into sexual

activity without their consent. Different forms of sexual violence: sexual
assault, rape, or touching body parts without the consent of others, forcing
the victim to perform sexual acts (Dung Nguyễn, 2021). Physical violence is not
only considered sexual violence but attacking others with words and rude eyes
to harass them is also a form of them.

Victims of sexual violence in the school environment: Sexual violence

often occurs between students of the opposite sex, even students of the same
sex. It can also be between teachers and students but in general, they are part
of the school environment. Sexual violence takes place right in the school
environment or the individual is abused outside of the school environment but
the perpetrator or victim is still in the school environment. The victim of this
"perverted" behavior, Nguyen H.L. (student at a university in Hanoi) said that
she had been sexually harassed in her first year of university. When he went to
university, H.L. participated in a fraternity in school. After a few meetings, the
female student got to know some of the brothers and sisters. Among them,
there was a senior who paid attention to her and actively texted her to get to
know her. Initially H.L. I thought it was just a normal conversation between
compatriots, but during the texting process, he continuously used "soliciting"
language; Found every way to reach out, from all social network accounts,
block one place, and find another."More horrifying, he also sent me "nude"
pictures, thinking about it makes me creepy" - H.L said. Not only one, but H.L.
said that on another occasion while riding the bus when the bus was quite
crowded, she was "patted" on the butt by a pervert. Even though he was very
scared, at that time H.L could only stay silent so he could quickly get out of the
car and leave quickly (Kiều Phương & Nguyễn Phương Thảo, 2022).

III. SUBJECT OF SCHOOL VIOLENCE

Most of the people who become violent towards others are those who
are exposed to frequent acts of violence, which appear in their daily lives and
ingrained in their subconscious a distorted way of thinking. It is very normal to
underestimate the use of violence. That way of thinking appears in the family
or in society, where they come into contact every day with a family that is not
full of love, an environment with countless social evils that are also the
"cradle" that nurtures depression think negatively. In addition, online
influences also lead to school violence such as playing unhealthy games,
watching or reading junk information on social networks.

People who want to commit violence against others are also people
who want to express themselves because these behaviors come from students
at the end of middle school and the beginning of high school (from 12-17
years old). Just a small impact, provocation, or bad stimulus from the outside
will cause your classmates to follow suit. Due to lack of comprehensive
development, lack of ability to behave, and deviations in perspectives and
living standards, it will lead to misperception. wrong knowledge and behavior.

People who have experienced school violence can also become subjects
of violence. They believe that they were once victims and had to endure
physical, mental, and political pain. They were vulnerable but also wanted to
drag others in, they wanted the others to have the same experience as they
had the day before, thinking that these behaviors were completely normal.
Victims can be people with outstanding appearance or excellent academic
achievements can also be victims of this behavior because of jealousy and
envy, which can lead to assault and violence. People with different gender
types (gender stigma) or women are also the focus of school violence (the
main subject of sexual violence). Even when they do nothing, they are dragged
in, simply accidentally targeted and abused for no reason at all to satisfy those
who have violent tendencies in their environment road school (Group 5,
2023).

IV. SOLUTION

The solution here is to find out why students who bully other students
engage in that behavior and guide them on how to stop it, pointing out the
harmful effects it can bring to them. If you are bullied, you need
encouragement from your family to overcome the effects of school violence.
The school needs to teach students how to prevent themselves and practice
more skills to deal with the phenomenon of school violence today. To be able
to prevent this problem, we must grasp and understand effective measures
and interventions such as: preventing fighting or verbal attacks. speaking,
strengthening solidarity among students to develop friendships in the
classroom, and organizing exchange events about school violence and its
harmful effects. In addition, families need to pay more attention to their
children and share and confide in them so that they feel cared for by the
family. If any of us has someone who is being bullied, we should comfort,
encourage, and provide companionship so as not to make them feel lonely
(Group 5, 2023).

V. CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the above arguments are from our opinion. Everyone

knows that every problem has its good and bad sides, but for us, school
violence is a quite special problem because it only has negative sides. The
elements of school violence show us that the way of raising and the
educational environment is still not good. Therefore, we need to condemn and
strictly handle violence issues. In places where there is no violence, we should
pay attention to the educational environment and educational methods,
because school violence will easily occur in a toxic environment, causing
negative effects on our children and society going down day by day (Group 5,
2023).
