LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL PURPOSES

FIRST QUARTER

I. OBJECTIVES:
 Define the types of text structure
 Use knowledge of text structure to glean the information he/she needs
 Appreciate the importance of the different types of text structures in arranging information

II. SUBJECT MATTER:


TOPIC: Different Types of Text Structures
CONCEPT:

Text structures (WDPI, 2012) refer to the way authors organize information in text.
Recognizing the underlying structure of texts can help students focus attention on key concepts and
relationships, anticipate what is to come, and monitor their comprehension as they read.

Types of Text Structures


1. Narrative - Narrates an event/story with characters, setting, conflict, point of view, and plot
2. Chronological, Process, or Sequence- Present ideas or events in the order in which they happen
3. Cause and Effect - Provide explanations or reasons for phenomena
4. Problem/ Solution - Identify problems and pose solutions
5. Compare and Contrast - Discuss two ideas, events, or phenomena, showing how they are different
and how they are similar
6. Definition or Description - Describes a topic by listing characteristics, features, attributes, and
examples

III. PROCEDURES:
A. PRE-ACTIVITY
1. Motivation
The students will guess what the pictures or illustrations are all about and they will try to fill
the missing letters to complete a word.

B. LESSON PROPER
1. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON
The teacher presents the lesson to the students about the Different types of Text Structures.
2. ACTIVITY
Students are grouped in 4. Each group will do the following activities using the different
types of Text Structures.

Group 1 ( Chronological/Sequence/Process )

Instruction; List down the cooking process on how to cook Pork Adobo and present it to the
class.

Group 2 ( Cause and Effect )

Instruction: List down as many as possible the causes of Air Pollution.

Group 3 ( Problem/Solution)
Instruction: Use ratio and proportion concept in solving the problem

Situation:
A water tank is filled with 28,000 liters of water. Suppose, 6,000 liters are used for three
days. How many days will the water tank be emptied?

Group 4 ( Compare and Contrast )

Instruction: Below are details of the Philippine economic condition in the years 2022 and
20223. Use the Venn Diagram in presenting the details.

*In 2022, the tourism and hospitality sectored saw a gradual recovery as restrictions eased.
GDP : -3.6%, Unemployment rate: 8.2%, inflation rate: 4.5%

*In 2023, the tourism and hospitality sector has seen a significant improvement in as tourist
arrivals has gone up. GDP: + 6.1% ,Unemployment Rate: 6.0%, Inflation Rate: 3.2 %

Note: Each group will be given 10 minute time to finish the given activity. The group
leader will report right after the activity work.
