PROCEDURE:

I. INTRODUCTION

1. Prayer
2. Checking of Attendance
3. Word for the day individual presentation (Words related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
4. Present the students the specific learning outcomes:
a. identify the reading strategies to determine text structure
b. identify informational text structures
c. classify the structure of a specific academic text
d. create an example text using the different structure of specific academic text
e. create a graphic organizer about a text

II. MOTIVATION
1. Group Activity:
a. Ask the students to group themselves into 5 groups.
b. Each group will have 10 to 15 pieces of spaghetti noodles, a scotch tape, and a thread.
c. Each group will build a tower for 3 minutes using the materials given to them.
d. The tallest tower will be the winner.
2. Relate the activity to the lesson.

III. INSTRUCTION/ DELIVERY (LO1 and LO2)

1. Ask the students to give ideas about text and structure through Semantic Web.

2. Ask the students the question:


 Based in your own definition of structure, how can we identify the structure of a text?

3. Ask the students to identify the strategy through the following jumbled letters.

I. Reading Strategies to Determine Text Structure

a. UISNGILCIT – answer: Linguistic – take note of language cues (different examples of language cues will be shown in
informational text structures)
b. XETT APMPNGI – answer: Text Mapping – graphic representation
c. LINGINTOU – answer: Outlining – topic and sentence outline classifying the major and minor ideas of a text.

4. Ask the students to identify the text structures based on definition.

II. Informational Text Structures


a. Definition – explains what a term means and cites examples.

b. Description – gives concrete details about appearances, characteristics, and actions.

c. Recount of a Sequence – is a chronological narration of a historical period, a sequential description of a process or a procedure.

d. Cause – Effect – presents reason why a situation is obtained.

e. Problem – Solution – text starts with a negative situation (problem) and ends with a positive situation (solution).

f. Comparison and Contrast – similarities and differences are presented.

g. Enumeration – is a listing, as in a list of parts, of characteristics, of example, etc.

h. Classification – text presents groupings, types, classes, categories, and sub-categories that constitute a concept, presented in
hierarchal order.

Seatwork 1: Identify the dominant structure in the following excerpts and its language cues. Do any appropriate text mapping strategy to show
the overall organization and content of the material.
V. Enrichment

Group Activity: (LO4 and LO5) (1 hour activity)


a. Ask the same group to write a text about the following structures below and underline its language cues.

b. Each group will also create a graphic organizer about the text.
