WHAT IS
PROCRASTINATION?

BY ACADAWN GROUP
PROCRASTINATION IS PUTTING OFF YOUR
IMPORTANT TASKS FOR LATER, EVEN
KNOWING THAT IT MAY LEAD TO NEGATIVE
CONSEQUENCES LIKE STRESS AND FAILURE.

BUT WHY DO WE
PROCRASTINATE?

BY ACADAWN GROUP
Why do we put off tasks ,
when we know it might lead
to unwanted consequences.
Let’s understand this in
detail:
When you assign yourself a
task that requires focus and
energy or is “stressful”, your
brain perceives the task as a
threat and thus sends you in
a flight or fight mode. To
avoid the stress , you chose
the flight mode and delay
the task to avoid the
discomfort and engage in
an activity that gives you
comfort and is mostly even
unnecessary.

The more stressful a task is, the

more we delay it and the more
we delay it, the more our brain
perceives the task to be
stressful, and that’s how we end
up in the endless cycle of
procrastination until we miss a
deadline or fail an exam.

HOW TO BEAT
PROCASTINATION ?

1. WRITE IT DOWN , BREAK IT DOWN

Procrastination is not a time

management problem, it is an
emotion management problem.
We tend to delay work because
sometimes the project seems
overwhelming. And just thinking
about the load, we just keep
delaying it and never even start.

The cure to this problem is writing

your goal on a piece of
paper(don’t do it in your head)
and then breaking it down into
achievable chunks and then
finish them one by one, and you
will see how easy it becomes to
finish the project. Make those
chunks so small that, it should
seem stupid to not to be able to
finish them.

This is a technique that I use to

make these guides for you.
If I have to make a guide, I always
break down the whole book into
chapters and I work on just one
chapter at a time and it helps me
to have a detailed Roadmap and
I never fail to complete my
projects.

2. HAVE A SCHEDULE AND STICK TO IT

Having a schedule will make

you have more control on
your life than anything else.
Stop being a leaf that just
keeps being pushed around
wherever the wind blows.

Having fixed blocks for your

work will leave less room for
your emotions to take charge
and ruin your goals.
And don’t go online and look
up for some schedules that
the “Elites “ follow.
You have your own life, make
a schedule that serves you
and your goals only. The
schedule is supposed to be a
tool not a punishment.
Be very disciplined, learn
to say no to any other
activities and people than
the work allocated for the
specific time block and
just do the work.
No overthinking!!!

3.SAFE PAIN AS A KICKSTART

Nowadays a lot of people are

Dopamine depleted and because
of that they are not able to get that
initial push to start anything.
The key to overcome this
activation barrier is to do
something that is a bit painful for
you but in a safe way.

This activity can differ for different

people. It can be a workout. Cold
showers are one of the best way to
increase your dopamine levels and
give you a boost. Doing other
small tasks like organising your
workspace etc...

The aim is to start doing something

that sucks and the more boring
and painful it is for you, the quicker
you will get to your baseline and
you will effortlessly dive into the
work that you wanted to do. Just
make sure to not exhaust yourself
before the task you actually want
to engage in.
