“The paw blanket is crocheted in Panduro’s cotton yarn 8/4 and
crochet hook no. 3, it gives a square of about 11 cm. It looks harder
than it is, just think about counting the meshes end up in the right
place.
You start with a “Paw coaster”, pattern by AmiaMikancl. Patterns are
available free on youtube with English text.
Also make the first round of the pattern “Crochet paw doily”, also
the one free pattern by AmiaMikancl on youtube. I have added an
extra treble crochet in the same stitches as the first 3 ch to get
the number of stitches to match.
Then just start turning the circle into a box. I have used markers to
the corners so it should be easier to see.
Finish with one round sc, one sc in each st. In the corners 1 sc 1 ch 1
sc.
Make the number of squares you need for your blanket, it varies
depending on the needle and yarn and how big you want to make it.
Block the squares and sew or crochet them together. I prefer to
crochet squares together in the back loop. Finish by crocheting a lap
sc or an edge around the blanket.“
Notes:
Since the paw print patterns are by a different artist, I’m not going
to include the steps here.
The pattern calls for adding an extra treble stitch in the “doily”
round. Instead, I opted to go with 1 sc + 1 hdc in the last treble of
that stitch group (so 1 ch + 1 sc, 1 sc, 1 sc + 1 hdc). The notes below
though expect the extra treble.
US crochet terms (ch = chain, sc = single crochet, hdc = half double
crochet, dc = double crochet, tr = treble crochet)

ROUND 1
LEFT SIDE A
1 ch
1 sc in same stitch
1 sc in treble x 2
1 hdc in treble
2 dc in chain space
2 tr + 1 ch + 2 tr in the first dc (corner)
(subtotal = 3 sc, 1 hdc, 2 dc, corner)

BOTTOM
1 dc in dc x 2
1 hdc + 1 sc in chain space
1 sc in dc x 3
2 sc in chain space
1 sc in dc x 3
1 sc + 1 hdc in chain space
1 dc in dc x 2
2 tr + 1 ch + 2 tr in last dc (corner)
(subtotal = 10 sc, 2 hdc, 4 dc, corner)

RIGHT
1 tr + 1 dc in chain space
1 hdc in tr x 3
1 hdc in sc
1 sc in sc
2 sc in chain space
1 sc in sc x 2
1 sc + 1 hdc in chain space
1 dc in tr x 2
1 tr in tr
2 tr + 1 ch + 2 tr in first stitch of chain space (corner)
(subtotal = 6 sc, 5 hdc, 3 dc, 2 tr, corner)

TOP
1 tr in second stitch of chain space
1 dc in dc x 2
1 hdc in dc
2 sc in chain space
1 sc in tr x 3
2 sc in chain space
1 sc in dc x 2
1 hdc in dc
1 dc + 1 tr in chain space
2 tr + 1 ch + 2 tr in first tr (corner)
(subtotal = 9 sc, 2 hdc, 3 dc, 2 tr, corner)

LEFT B
1 tr in tr
1 dc in tr
1 dc + 1 hdc in chain space
1 hdc in sc
1 sc in sc
2 sc in chain space
1 sc in sc x 2
slip stitch in first sc
(subtotal = 5 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, 1 tr)
At this point, there should be 20 stitches per side + the chain
spaces in the corners.

ROUND 2

1 sc in each stitch
In each corner: 1 sc + 1 ch + 1 sc
I’m planning on adding more to the border, hence the stitch marker
left in the side
